To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Louis A. brnrirAN, a
citizen of the United States, residing at St.
Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 111 Gearing' for th ashing-Mitchines, of which the following is :1. specification.
invention relates to on improvement in gearing for washing machines, and the object is to provide an electrically driven shaft having right end left worm gears thereon, which are adapted to mesh with the large gear wheel which is connected. to the agitator ot the washing machine, one of the worm gears engaging; the wheel for causing it to move in one direction as the shaft is rotated, and the other worm gear to engage the. gear wheel for causing it to move in the other direction.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and cdmbinations of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.

lilaving fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The conlhinntion with a main shaft and means for driving said shaft, of axsecondary shaft, a gear wheel mounted on the secondary shaft, it double worm slidably mounted on the main shaft adapted to mesh with the gear wheel, n worm wheel, means on the main shaft for driving the worm wheel, and means connecting the worm wheel to the double worm, whereby first one of the worms and then the otherwill be thrown into en gageuient with the large gear wheel during the rotation of the worm wheel.

The combination with a. main shaft and means for driving'said shaft, of a secondary shaft, a gear wheel mounted on the secondary shaft, a. double worm slidably mounted on the main shaft adapted-to mesh with the gear wheel, a worm wheel, a worm on the main shaftmeshing with the worm wheel and means connecting the worm wheel to the double worm, whereby each ofthe Worms will he brought into engagement with the gear wheeltor rotating it in two directions during one revolution of the worm wheel.
