Be it known that 'I, O'r'ro WILLIAM MEISS-' NER, 'of Westmount, Province of Quebec,
Canada, have lnvented certain new and useful Improvements in Trap-Doors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates particularly to trap doors for use in controlling the flow of ce- 'reals, coal, ore and other loose commodities,
although it can be applied, with advantage to other doors requiring to be sealed, and it.

descend, and according to this invention the shaft is ,carried I rot-atably in brackets 10 upon the door at each side thereof, each end .of the shaft being polygonal and projecting as at 25 a short distance'beyond the sides of the door, while it is rotated by any suitable wrench or spanner, and ratchet wheels 12 and pawls .13 retain the shaft against unwinding until it is-desired to lower the door when the pawls are lmdcked out of engagement with the ratchet wheel. The object of'providing the sliding hinge for the door is to allow the rear flange of the latter to remain constantly in bearing relation with the corresponding flange of the door opening and particularly as the doordescends to and rests in discharging position, thus preventing leakage at this point both when the door is open and closed.

The trap door described herein is applicable to cars as well as to bins or other structures where such a door may be desirable.
What I claim is as follows 1. The combination with a trap door havflanges on opposite sides, of a displaceable flange adapted to project under and close one of the remaining sides of the door, and operating mechanism connected to the flange.
2. The combination with a door having upwardly projecting flanges on three sides to form a trough with one end open, of a valvular member equal in width to such open end and adapted to' close the latter and,
project under and support the door when in closed position and move from the said open end when the door is opened, and means for operating the said member.
3. The combination with a door of trough form with one end open, of an angle strip adapted to project under and close the said open endwhen the door is closed, and move away from such open end when the door is opened, and means for operating the said stri L The combination with a hinged flanged door one side whereof is without a flange, of a displaceable member consisting of an angle strip one flange whereof is adapted to overlap such sid and the other flange whereof is adapted to act as a flange for said nonflanged side when the door is closed.
5. The combination with a door frame having a continuous flange extending around all sides of the door opening, a trap door hinged to the frame and having a coin tinuous flange extending around all the sides thereof except one and adapted to inclose the corresponding portion of the flange of the door opening, and displaceable means for sealing the joint between the remaining portion of the door and the flanged frame.
6. The combination with a door frame having a. continuous flange extending around all sides of the door opening, a' trap door hinged to the frame and having a continuous flange extending around'all the sides thereof except one and the corresponding portion of the flange of the-door opening, an angular member, and

The combination with the door frame having a continuous flange extending around all sides of the door opening, a trap door hin ed tothe frame tinuous ange extending around all the'sides thereof except one and adapted to inclose the corresponding portion of the flange of the door opening, a pair of supporting arms hinged to the frame, an angle iron mounted upon such arms, and means for allowing the said supporting arms to swing and such means supporting the said arms when the door is closed with the angle iron in position sealing the joint between the nonilanged side of the door and the flanged rame.
8. The combination with a door frame" presenting a door opening, of a flanged door adapted to register with and substantially close such opening, and a displaceable sealing strip adapted to seal the space between the door and frame.
9. The combination with a flanged'door frame presenting a door opening, of a door of trough form with open end adapted to register with and substantially close such opening and displaceable means for sealing the joint between the said open end of the door and the door frame.
10. The combination with a door having three sides flanged to form a door of trough form with open end, of a displaceable me ber adapted to extend under and to act as such open end when the door is closed.
11. The combination v.with a downwardly flanged door frame presenting a door opening, of a hinged door having an upwardly projecting flange extending continuously around its hinged side and the sides adjacent thereto, such flange being adapted to closely inclose the door frame-flanges, of 'a pair of hinged members connecting such door and frame, one of such members being horizontally slotted and the other having a hinge pin movably supported in the said slot, such slot and pin being located at a lower level than the top of the said flange.
12. The combination with a door frame presenting a door opening, of a trap door comprising a main part of trough form, and a part sealing the space between one end of the trough and the door frame, and a shaft 'niovable'transversely of its axisrelatively to both door against one of parts closed.
13. The combination with a door frame having flanges extending downwardly on all sides thereof, of a hinged door having parts and adapted to bear such parts and hold both In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification,
