Be it known that I,JOHN C. HARTT, a res1 dent of East Liverpool, in the county of Columbiana and State o,f Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Type- Vriters; and I do hereby declare the folloiving to be a full, olear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to iypewriters and more particnlarly t feeding devices therefor adapted to feed envelops or the like into the writing mechanism of the. machine. Its object is to provide a device adapted to carry a large nmber of envlops and to feed the same regulariy into proper position for writing without separate hand adjustment' of each envelop.

Vhile I have described my invention as a feeding device for envelops,it w-ill he apparent that the means devised are applicable toothr like purposes, and I claim for it all uses to Which il: is applicable.
To these ends my invention contemplate, generally stated, the combination in a typewriting machine provided with a platen, of suitable lino spacing mechanism for actuat ing the same, the said spacing mechanism being prefenblythongh not necessarily within the broadcope of my invention,n t he form of a surplementary spacing mechanisrn detahable from the machine proper, means for carrying a mnltiplicity of sheels or envelops, mechanism movable by hand pressure to.feed said'sheets 1ndividnally to said platen and to engage said line spacing mechanism and therehy advance or actnate said placen to an extent preferably substantially eqnivalent to the anionnf. of feed. The carrying means for the sheets is preferably embodied in the form of a receptacle attaeln able to the typewriter carriage of any standard type of machine, and the :eeding mechanism is preferahly embodied in ahe si1ape of a eeding roller carried by the recepiacle, Will niean:s for maintaining one of the sheets in contact with it, the snpplementary lime spacing mechanism preferahly employed being carried by the recepacle and including a r:iprocating bar; another reciprocaing bar being arranged to actuate he iieed 1nechanism and also engage with the reciprocating bar 01 the line spacing mechanism to actnate the same.
