THEODORE H. KRUSE, OF"ARVADA, COLORADO.
FENCE-POST MOLD.
Application filed July 12, 1911.
To all whom it may c0ncem Be it known that I, THEODORE H. Knusn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Arvada, in the county of Jefferson and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Fence-Post Mold, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in strong and durable.
The invention consists of certain instrumentalities and features substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and defined by the claims.
I In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention, wherein it will be understood that various changes and modifications therein may be made as relates to the detailed construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention, Figure 1 is a plan view of the mold; Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof; Fig. 3 is an end view; and Fig. 4 is a transverse section of the same.
In carrying out my invention, I form the mold of separable lateral and end portions or members, designated as 1 and 2, respectively, and being of plate metal, thus serving also in lieu of a lining which would otherwise be required. The lateral members have suitably applied or fastened thereto, upon their outer sides, outstanding horizontal and vertical ledge or flange forming portions 3 and 4, these ledge forming portions being angular in cross section, the vertical arms of the angles being suitably secured, preferably, by screws 5 to the lateral members 1.
The lateral members 1, have their inner surfaces suitably flared or inclined around their longitudinal and transverse edges as at- 6 as seen particularly in Fig. 4: to impartto the plastic product or contents of the Specification of Letters Patent.

mold corresponding inclined surfaces at the opposite points of the latter as preferred.
The end closures or members 2 of the mold which are perfectly flat or plane upon their inner surfaces, rest flat upon the end ledge-like forming portions of the lateral members and are suitably and removably held in position, preferably as shown, by hinge-like attaching or fastening means 7 This attaching or fastening means for each side of the end-closures or members 2 in cludes two hinge-like leaf-members or plates 7 suitably secured to a ledge forming portion and to an end member or closure, respectively, the eye-terminals 7 of which plates or lea-f members interfitting into, and alining each other and receiving a removable bent-ended pintle 7. The bent end of the pintle 7, designated as 7, provides for limiting the movement of the pintle as it is inserted in place and for its convenient engagement by the fingers for the displacement of the pintle as in eflecting the disassembling and reassembling of the end members or closures 2 together with the lateral members A.
The end members or closures are provided with suitable handles 8, preferably of baillike form for their convenient removal and replacement, while to the lateral members 1 are supplied handles 9 of the like form, near their ends for like purpose. The handles or bails 9 are connected at their ends to the ledge or flange forming portions 3 of the lateral members, this being preferably effected by flattening said ends as at 10 and preferably riveting said flattened end portions to said ledge or flange forming portions as seen particularly in Fig. 4. By thus securing or applying the handles or bails 9 in position, it will be noted that they effect a bracing action, through the ledge or flange forming portions, upon said lateral members which would not otherwise be present, which bracing action renders the mold more durable and accordingly prolongs the service thereof, as is apparent.
The operation of the invention is thought to be obvious, the device or mold being suitably placed upon a pallet or base plate (not shown) as well understood, the plastic material or concrete is suitably supplied thereto and tamped or pressed by suitable power, and smoothed off. The molded material may be and is instantly released by withdrawing the pintles or pins 7 its contained material will be allowed to remain therein until suitably hardened when the resulting product is removed as above made plain in its thus hardened condition in fence-post form, or which may beutilized to form a tie member, a mining prop, a window sill or a Window cap, as is apparent.
The invention, it will be thus seen, is eX- tremely simple, is readily manipulated in effecting the molding operation, and is light and durable, all of which is in evidence upon its face.
What is claimed is 1. A mold of the type described including separable end and lateral members, ledgeforming members of right-angled cross-section, and of frame-like outline and, in continuation, conforming to the outline of the lateral members, the edges of the outstanding end portions of said ledgeforming members having eyes formed thereon, the longitudinal portions of said ledge-forming members being braced together at their outer edges, near their ends, the braces thus provided being adapted to serve also as handles, end plates fixed to the end-members and having eyes formed upon their vertical edges received between the eyes of said ledgeforming members, and retaining pins inserted through said eyes.
2. A mold embracing separable end and lateral plate members, said lateral plate members including flange forming portions secured around the longitudinal and transverse edges thereof, and outstanding from the outer surfaces of the latter, said outstanding flange forming portions being angular in cross section, the inner arms of the angles thus formed being secured to said plate member outer surfaces, said end plate members extending laterally beyond the end openings of the mold and resting flat upon the flange forming portions at their ends, means for removably applying said end plate members, comprising hinge leaf like plates fixed to said end plate members and the ends of said flange forming portions, respectively, at the vertical edges of said end plate members and said end flange forming portions, the eye forming edges of said hinge leaf like plates interfitting into each other beyond the outer vertical edges of said end plate members and said flange forming portion ends, and removable pintles engaging said eye forming edges of the hinge leaf like plates.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afliXed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
THEODORE H. KRUSE.
