FRESH-AIR SLEEPING-HOOD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 9, 1912.
Application filed November 22, 1910. Serial No. 593,703.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT BENNETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of WVashington, have invented a new and useful Fresh-Air Sleeping-Hood, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject-matter of this application, is a hood, adapted to inclose the head of a sleeper, the hood being adapted for connection with the outside air, so that a person in a building, may breathe, while sleeping, pure out-door air.
The invention aims to provide novel means for assembling the flexible tubular member which incloses the neck of the sleeper with the hood portion of the device. The structure is shown in a single sectional figure.
In carrying out the invention there is pro vided a hood 1, having an opening 2 in one side 3. A ring 4 of larger diameter than the opening 2 is secured to the said side 3 of the hood 1, in spaced relation thereto, that portion of the hood 1 which is located between the ring 4: and the opening 2, defining a flange 5 in the hood 1. A tubular member 6 is provided, the same preferably being flexible, and a ring 7 is secured to one end of the tubular member 6. The ring 7 is adapted to fit inside of the ring 4, and to abut against the flange 5. The ring 7 which is carried by the tubular member 6 is provided with an angular finger 8, adapted to hook over the flange 5. A latch 9 is pivoted to the hood 1, the latch 9 being movable to overhang the rings 4: and 7, and to cooperate with the finger 8 to maintain the tubular member 6 engaged with the hood 1. In the hood 1, a tube 10 may be mounted, the same being adapted to form a communication between the hood and the outside air. If desired, the hood 1 may be equipped with a vent 12, whereby the air which is exhaled may pass from the hood. A suspension device 11 may be attached to any suitable portion of the hood.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
A device of the class described comprising a hood having an opening in one side; a ring of larger diameter than the opening, secured to the side of the hood in spaced relation thereto, that portion of the hood which is located between the ring and the opening, defining a flange in the hood; a tubular member; a ring secured to one end of the tubular member and adapted to fit inside of the first named ring and to abut against the flange, the ring which is carried by the tubular member having an angular finger adapted to hook over the flange, and a latch pivoted to the hood, the latch being movable to overhang both rings, and to cooperate with the finger in maintaining the tubular member engaged with the hood.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT BENNETT.
