To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER N. DUT'roN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the village of Oak Park, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new Vand useful Improvements in I-Ieating Apparatus, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to improvements in heating devices and more specifically to that class thereof designed for attachment to a gas burner.
The object of my invention is the production of a device of the character mentioned which will be of improved construction and efficient in operation.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
With these objects in view my invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
My invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a heating device embodying my invention, the same being shown attached for use, 2 is a perspective view of one end portion of the heater to which is applied a support of a slightly modified form, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail section.
Referring now to the drawings 1 designates the ordinary gas supply pipe in which is provided the usual cock 2, 3 indicating the threaded nipple thereof to which the gas tip is usually applied. In applying my device, the gas tip is removed and the' coupling 4 is threaded upon the nipple 3 1n its stead. The coupling 4 is connected through the medium of the pipe section 5 with a T- coupling 6 in the opposite ends of which are threaded a pipe stretch 7 and a Bunsen burner 8, a cock 9 being interposed between the latter and said coupling 6. At the outer end of the pipe 7 is provided an ordinary cock 10 which' governs the flow of gas to the tip 11 which is connected therewith in the ordinary manner. The outer end of the burner tube 8 is closed by a cap 12 and the upper side of said tube is provided with two rowsof perforations or jet openings 13 through which, when the device is in operation, jets or flames issue. Provided in the under side of the tube 8 adjacent the cock 9 is an opening 14 through which air is admitted for mixture with the gas fed to the burner through a nozzle 15 arranged in the rearward end thereof as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
Arranged above the burner 8 is a flattened tube 16 which is adapted to serve as a support or holder in the manner hereinafter described. The member 16 is held in operative position upon the burner 8 and above the openings 13 through the medium of substantially U-shaped spring clips '18 which are secured upon the under side of the former, said clips being adapted to releasably embrace said burner as clearly illustrated. Iivotally mounted as at 10 upon the upper side of the member 16 medially of the ends thereof is a bar 19 which is adapted to be turned at right angles to the axis ofthe tube S so as to constitute a web adapted for service in supporting a cup or pan which is illustrated in dotted lines at 20. In order to insure against accidental displacement of the cup or pan supported, the extremities of the bar 19 are bent upwardly and the ends of the member 16 are provided with ears 21 to constitute stops as will be readily understood.
The employment of a tubular supporting member' 16 is of special advantage in that with this construction a safety air space will be formed between the upper and lower sides of said supporting member which will prevent overheating or burning of the contents of a pot or pan arranged upon the device for heating.
A device of the construction set forth, in addition to its adaptability for use as a pot or pan support as mentioned is adapted also for employment as a support for hair-irons, the latter, when the support is thus employed being inserted into the tube 16 as shown in dotted lines at 17 in Fig. 1. VVhon t-he bar 19 is not in use the same may be swung into alinement with the tube 16. Also with my construction if it is desired only to illuminate the room the cocks 2 and 10 may be opened and the cock 9 closed; when it is desired to only use the hair-iron burner the cocks 2 and 9 will be opened and the cock 10 closed; and when it is desired to use both ends of the device all three of said cocks will be opened. In Fig. 2 is shown a supporting member of slightly modified form, the member 16 there illustrated being circular for use in conjunction With the ordinary curling iron which is shown at 17. The member 16 is attached to the burner 8 in the same manner as the member 16, the bar 19 and the stops 21 being omitted in this figure.

'While I have illustrated and described the preferred forms of construction for carrying my invention into effect, these are capable of variation and modification Without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not Wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modications as come Within the scope of the appended claims.
I-Iaving described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a heater of the character described, the combination of a coupling adapted to be threaded upon a gas tip nipple; stretches of pipe extending from said coupling; a gas tip and governing cock therefor at the outer end of one of said pipe stretches; a cock governing the other of said pipe stretches, the latter being provided in its upper side With a plurality of jet openings; a tubular member detachably secured upon said last mentioned pipe stretch; and means on said tubular member adapted in combination with the latter to constitute a supporting Web, substantially as described.
2. In a heater of the character described, the combination of a coupling adapted to be threaded upon a gas tip nipple; horizontally disposed stretches of pipe extending from said coupling; a gas tip and governing cock therefor at the outer end of one of said pipe stretches; a cock governing the other of said pipe stretches, the latter being provided With a plurality of jet openings in its upper side; a tubular member detachably secured upon said last mentioned pipe stretch above the same; and means on said tubular member adapted in combination with the latter to constitute a supporting Web, substantially as described.
3. In a heater of the character described, the combination of a coupling adapted to be threaded upon a gas tip nipple; stretches of pipe extending from said coupling; a gas tip and governing cock therefor at the outer end of one of said pipe stretches; a cock governing the other of said pipe stretches, the latter being provided in its upper side with a plurality of jet openings; a tubular member detachably secured upon said last mentioned pipe stretch; and a bar pivoted upon said tubular member adapted to be adjusted to constitute a supporting web in combination with said tubular member, substantially as described.
41. In a heater of the character described, the combination of a coupling adapted to be threaded upon a gas tip nipple; horizontally disposed stretches of pipe extending from said coupling; a gas tip and governing cock therefor at the outer end of one of said pipe stretches; a cock governing the other of said pipe stretches, the latter being provided with a plurality of jet openings in its upper side; a tubular member detachably secured upon said last mentioned pipe stretch above the same; and a bar pivoted medially upon the upper side of said tubular member adapted to be adjusted so as to constitute a supporting web in combination with said tubular member, substantially as described.
5. In a heaterI of the character described, the combination of a coupling adapted to be threaded upon a gas tip nipple; horizontally disposed stretches of pipe extending from said coupling; a gas tip and governing cock therefor at the outer end of one of said pipe stretches; a cock governing the other of said pipe stretches, the latter being provided with a plurality of jet openings in its upper side; a tubular member detachably secured upon said last mentioned pipe stretch above the same; and a bar pivoted medially upon the upper side of said tubular member adapted to be adjusted so that a supporting Web Will be constituted by said tubular member and bar, said bar and said tubular member having upwardly turned stop forming ends, substantially as described.
6. In a heater of the character described, the combination of a coupling adapted to be threaded upon a gas tip nipple; a horizontally disposed stretch of pipe extending in one direction from said coupling; a Bunsen burner extending in the opposite direction from said coupling; a gas tip and governing cock therefor at the outer end of said pipe stretch; a cock governing said Bunsen burner, the latter being provided with a plurality of jet openings in its upper side; a flattened tubular supporting member detachably secured upon said Bunsen burner; and a bar pivoted upon the upper side of said tubular member adapted to be turned so that a supporting Web Will be constitutedy by said tubular member and bar, substantially as described.
7. In a heater of the character described, the combination of a coupling adapted to be threaded upon a gas tip nipple; a horizontally disposed stretch of pipe extending in one direction from said coupling; a Bunsen burner extending in the opposite direction from said coupling; a gas tip and governing cock therefor at the outer end of said pipe may be `constituted, substantially as described.
