Be it known that I, PATRICK J. MAnncN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plumbing-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to the means for supporting the bowl of a urinal, or the bowl of a lavatory, a drinking fountain or, in short, any other plumbing fixture which is not so wide as to require supporting from more than a single point, and which has a single outlet Opening adapted to be coupled with a single outlet pipe.

The invention is especially well adapted for urnals and I have therefore selected this adaptation of it for the purposes of this application but with the understanding that I reserve to myself the exclusive right to use it on any fixture for which it is adapted.

It is well known to those skilled in the art, tlat bowls made of earthenware are frequently untrue, either by reason of imperfections in the molding, or by reason of their being distorted in handling while they are still soft, or by reason of their warping while being baked, and it is also known that the wall brackets for supporting them are not always secured to the wall in exactly proper vertical, alinement with either the communicating ends or the horizontal portions of the inlet and outlet pipe (either or both) or with the wall-openings through which said pipes pass. One or more of these imperfections may make it necessary to throw the bottom of the bowl to one side or the\ other in order to bring its outlet Opening into register with the open communicating end of the outlet pipe. If the supporting wall bracket has a straight, horizontal seat and the bowl a downwardly presented shoulder having a flat surface intended to bear thereon, this sidewise movement of the bowl will lift one end 'of its bearin surface of the shoulder out of contact with the seat on the bracket, and leave it in contact therewith only at the other end, especially if the bearing surfaces extend a considerable distance in both directions from the vertical central line of the fixture, with the result that the overhanging lip on the shoulder of the bowl which extends downward behind the upwardly inclined seat on the' bracket, for reventin the forward movement of the owl, is frequently broken oil" or the bowl cracked by the unequal slrain.

The Object of the present invention is to provide supporting neans of such construclionthat the lower part of the bowl nay be noved sidewise swinging about the bracket as a pi\'ot a distance necessary to accomplish the desired result, while naintaining an equal lirn hearing on the bracket seat from end to end.

To this end the invention consists in the features of novelty that are hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawing, which is made a part of this specification, and in which:

Fig. 3 is an elevation of the supporting wall bracket. 4 Fig. 4 is an elevation of the elastic packing which is interposed between the bracket and bowl.

B and B' are the inlct and outlet pipes which register with the open ends of the inlet and outlet openings, respectivcly, and have portions which proceed laterally from the back of the bowl and through openings b and b', respectively, formcd through the supporting wall or slab C. The vertical back of the bowl is countersunk, being surrounded by a marginal rib or flange D, which bears against the vertical face of the wall, and within the countersink which results from this rib or flange, and near its top has a downwardly presented shoulder in the form of an overhanging lip A' formed on an are of a circle, the inner face of the lip being sloped or inclined downward and rearwarcl toward the wall, providing a bearing surface adapted to engage a complementary upwardly and forwardly inclined circular seat e on a bracket E secured to the wall or slab C, a packing F of soft rubber being interposed between them. The packing is molded so as to fit snugly over the seat on the bracket. That is to say eon- V Opening does not register with the outlet pipe, the bowl may be shifted upon its seat on the bracket until they do register, without disturbing the firm and continuous bearing of the shoulder of the bowl upon said seat. Furthermore, the bracket and shoulder are both short and disposed equally on opposite sides of the vertical center of the fixture, so that they engage each other firmly throughout their entire length.

The invention is in no wise concerned with the locations of the inlet and outlet openings or with the neans for forming tight oints between them and the bowl.

The subject matter of the present application was shown described and clai ned, substantially, in a prior application which was filed by me December 21, 1907, under Serial No. 407,603.

l/Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is* 1. In a plumbing fixture, the combination. of a bowl having an outlet Opening and having at its back, above said outlet Opening, a single shoulder having a bearing surfacc forined on an are of a circle lying in a plane substantially parallel with the general plane of the back of the bowl, a single bracket hav ing a single upwardly presented seat for said shoulder formed on an are complementary to the bearing surface of said shoulder, whereby the bowl may be adj usted about the aXis of said are, and a support to which a bracket is fiXedly secured.

2. In a plumbing fixture the combination oi' an adjustable bowl having at its bottom a centrally located discharge Opening and having at its back, above said discharge Opening, a single downwardly presented shoulder having a curved bearing surfaoe lying in a plane parallel with the general plane of the back of the bowl, and a single bracket having a single upwardly presented Curved bearing surface complementary to that of the shoulder, said shoulder, bracket and outlet being located on the central vertical line of the bowl.
