FIRE-LIGHTING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 2, 1912.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, PETER C. TRUELSEN and ADoLr SIMONSEN, subjects of the King of Denmark, and residing at Glendale, Long Island, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fire-Lighting Devices, of which the following is a specifi- 10 the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
,i-Tliis invention relates to devices for starting or lighting fires when coal, wood or other material is used as a fuel, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device the coal grate or beneath wood or other material supported by andirons, and whereby the fire may be quickly and easily started or the fuel ignited; and with this and other objects in View the invention consists in a device of the class specified,'constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the fol lowing specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of our improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in we each of the views, and inwhich Figure 1 is'a side view of our improved fire lighting or startingdevice, and, Fig. 2 a vertical section on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
In the practice of our invention we provide a pipe a closed at one end and provided a flexible gas hose may be connected at a ----and said extension a forms a handle for the device.

The device is provided with legs 6 by which it may be or is supported in an operative position when in use, and in the operation of this device it is inserted beneath the grate or other fuel support and the doors d slightly raised so as to permit air to flow into the chambers 6 and the gas is then turned on and the gas and air mixture is ignited as it flows from the burner c, or this operation may be performed before the device is inserted beneath the fuel.
The pipe a is provided with gas nozzles a by which gas from said pipe is discharged into the chambers Z2 and while in the accompanying drawing we have shown all the parts of the device, with the exception of the doors d, as formed integrally, it will be understood that said parts may be formed in any desired manner or may be formed separately and connected in any preferred way. The doors 0! not only serve as means for admitting air to the chamber 6 and for regulating the amount thereof, but the said doors maybe entirely open so as to permit or facilitate the cleaning of the chambers 6 the nozzles a, and the burner or burners c. It will also be understood that the legs 6 may be made of any desired height or length so as to give the device when supported thereby any desired height, and changes in and modifications of the construction described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of our invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A fire lighting device comprising a pipe one end portion of which is provided on the top thereof with gas and air mixing chambers above which are burners, said chambers being provided with means for admitting air thereto, comprising doors pivoted at one side thereof and adapted to be adjusted into different positions, the other end portion of said pipe being provided with an extension which forms a handle and with which a gas hose may be connected.
