FOLDING AND CONVERTIBLE GO-CART.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 2, 191 2..
Application filed September 13, 1911. Serial No. 649,095.
To all whom it may concern .f
Be it known that I, CLARENCE H. BEA- SEGKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sparta, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding and Convertible Go-Carts; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and t0 the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of thisv specification.
This invention relates to a folding go-cart and conveying case therefor and particularly to a construction by which the conveying wheels of the cart may be folded within the case for transportation. v
The invention has for its object to provide a novel construction of go-cart by which the wheels are mounted upon a pivotal portion to be folded therein and the handle and hood also folded so that all of the contained parts may be folded therein and easily conveyed.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims. I
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a side elevation of the cart, Fig. 2 is a detail perspective View of one of the wheels. Fig.3 is a longitudinal section of the cart. Fig. 4 is a similar view with the wheels folded within the body. Fig. 5 is a detail section on line 55 of Fig. 3. Fig. 6 is a similar section on line 6--6 of Fig. 4. Fig. 7 is a perspective of the case closed, and Fig. 8 is a side elevation of the opposite side of the case from that shown in Fig. 7 I I Like numerals of reference refer to like partsin the several figures of the drawings.
The bodylO of the vehicle is provided at opposite ends with tracks or guides 11 adapted to receive the slotted bar which extends longitudinally thereof and is providedwith the friction rollers 13. This bar 12 has depending therefrom the braces 14 and 15 to which the wheels 16 are pivoted. These wheels 16 are mounted in a hanger 17 pivoted at 18 upon the body and provided with a slot 19 connecting with the bracket-s 14 and 15 by means of the pivot 20.
For the purpose of raising the bar 12, a
traveling frame. 21 is mounted thereon and adapted to rest upon the rollers 13, being limited in its movement at each end by means of stops 22. This frame 21 is formed .with a slotted portion 23 adapted to embrace aroller 24 mounted upon a standard 25 carried by the bar 12. The frame is actuated longitudinally of the body by means of the lever 26 pivotally mounted at 27 and provided at its lower end with a slot 28 adapted to embrace a pivot 29 carried by the stand- 1' ard 30 mounted upon the frame. This lever is connected by apit-man 31 with a pivot 32 and the lower end of the. lever 33 which is pivotally mounted upon the body at 34. For the purpose of retaining this sliding frame in adjusted position, a latch lever 35 is provided and adapted to engage the frame at 36. This lever 35 is pivoted at 37 and provided with an operating rod 38 pivotally connected to theouter end thereof at 39, while the inner end of the lever is normally held in raised position by means of the spring 40.
The handle'33 is adapted to be folded. within the compartments 41 at opposite sides of the body 10 of the vehicle and the traveling frames may be duplicated at opposite sides of the cart to raise the wheels thereon. The cart may also be provided with a folding hood 42 adapted to be used within the body thereof, if desired. This bodyis also provided at one end with a portion 43 pivotally mounted upon the end board at 44 and adapted to be folded outward' to form a dash board, as shown in Figs. 1 and 8. One side of the casing may also be provided with a carrying handle 45, as shown in Fig. 7 7
As will be noted upon reference to Fig. 7
the side is composed of two sections 33 and '43 mounted upon hinges 47 and the section 43 is provided with a pivotal latch 43 designed to engage a pin 44 upon the section 33. p
In the operation of the invention, it will be seen that, when the handle of the cart is pressed toward the forward end thereof, the frame carried by the body at each sidethereof will be shifted backward through the pivoted link mounted upon said body and, during this movement, the shifting frame having the slot embracing the pivot of the reciprocating bar, will cause said bar to travel upward upon its tracks and thus raising the wheels from the position shown in Fig. 3 to the folded position shown in Fig. 4, such movement being allowed by the wheel hangers 17 which are properly slotted for that purpose. By swinging the lever to its limit in opposite directions, as designated in Figs. 3 and 1, the parts will be made to assume the positions shown respectively in said figures.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim to be new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a folding go-cart, a body portion, a series of wheels mounted thereon, a sliding bar connected to said wheels and traveling vertically within the body of said cart, a bracket depending from said bar, and a pivoted hanger for the wheels connected to said bracket.
2. In a folding go-cart, a body portion, a series of wheels mounted thereon, a sliding bar connected to said wheels and traveling vertically within the body of said cart, a bracket depending from said bar, and a pivoted hanger for said wheels having a slotted connection for said bracket.
3. In a folding go-cart, a body portion, a series of wheels mounted thereon, tracks disposed at the opposite ends of said body, a vertically traveling bar mounted upon said tracks, brackets extending from said bar and connected to carrier wheels, and means for raising said bar upon said tracks.
