In this way the box is completed in a quick andsimple manner, while the finished product is free from all wrinkles or objectionable bulges and presents a true rectilinear con- 'tour.

The blank 1 when introduced into the machine has the form indicated in Fig. 3, being provided -at each side with two laterally extending flaps, set off from the ends, while the blank is scored along the dotted lines. A stack of these blanks is placed into a magazine 2 in advance of a plungerv3, which is ressed against the blanks by a weight 4 and in'turn presses the blanks against a conveyer band 5 preferably made ofrubber. Between the base plate 6 of the magazine and the band 5 is'formed a slit of a width to permit the passage of a sin le blank only. Band 5 receives its motion rom a shaft 7, which by chain 8 drives a shaft 9. The latter, by toothed segment '10 and pinion 11 intermittently rotates a shaft 12, which carries the drivin pulley of band 5. At each movement the and will take along a blank 1 and convey it between a pair of feed rollers 13 which are composed of rubber, or are coated therewith. -To prevent that during this movement, a second blank is taken along, there is mounted in front of the stack, a resilient stop 14, which during the descent of the foremostblank, clears the same, and bears against the succeeding blank. Rollers 13 are driven from shaft 9 by suitable gear transmission and feed the blank into a chute 15, within which it slips a ainst a conveyer band 16. The latter is gui ed over sproc et wheels 17, 18 of which wheel 17 is continuously driven from a shaft 19 by gear wheels 20. The teeth 21 of the sprocket wheels enter corresponding apertures 22 of band 16, so as to prevent slipping.
Band 16 carries a number of uniformly spaced plates or cores 23, each of which is secured to the band in proximity to one of its transverse edges, so that the core will always assume a tangential position to the band. In this way the plates will during the rotation of the band be held off the same at their forward end (Fig. 1). Thus the blank descending in chute 15, will fall behind one of the plates, and upon a'laterally extending projection or pin 24, so that the blank will be taken along by the plate.
Above band 16 are arranged a pair of spaced folders 25 that are adapted to straddle the core and terminate at their forward end in proximity to the tangential line at which the band parts from the front wheel 17. Folders 25 have inclined upper faces over which the front flaps y of the blank will freely glide, while the rear flaps y will, by core 23 be forced against the inner working faces of the folders, so as to be turned upward as illustrated in Fig. 4. Back of folders 25 are yieldingly journaled a plurality of rubber or rubber coated rollers 26. Furthermore there are arranged sidewise of conveyer 16, rotatable disks 27 that dip into a receptacle 28 containing an adhesive and are driven from shaft 7. Above disks 27 are yieldingly hung rollers 28.
The blank is so located relatively to plates 23, that the forward edges of the latter are alined with the crease X of the former. If now during the further movement of the blank, its forward upwardly deflected end is forced against and below rollers 26, such end Wlllbe bent over the plates (Fig. 5) and be pressed tightly against the same. During this movement the flaps y will pass along the gumming disks 27, against which they are pressed by rollers 28 so that the flaps are gummed at their inner sides. Back of rollers 26, is arranged a second set of folders 29, that gradually bend front flaps y downward and against flaps Sidewise of conveyer 16 are fitted yielding rails-31,
carrying rollers 32, and pressing with said rollers against the blank fed therebetween. In this way, flaps y will be so held against flapsq, that they will become pasted thereto in a reliable manner and without'forming wrinkles. Furthermore there are mounted above conveyer 16 a number of vertically yielding rollers 33, that firmly press the blanks against plates 23, so that the box will not bulge, and will receive an exact rectilinear shape. Back of disk 18, are hung a pair of levers 34, carrying at their forward end a shoe 42, provided with pins or projections. Levers 34 are spring-pressed against adjustable abutments 35 (Fig. 1) and are fulcrumed to a lever 36 influenced by spring 37.
To the shaft of lever 36 is secured an arm .38, linked to a rod 39, whichis operated by cam 40. The shaft of this cain is operated from shaft 45 of sprocket wheel 18, by a gear transmission. By the means described, lever 36 is advanced against action of spring 37, at the moment a box arrives within reach of arms 34. In this way shoe 4:2 is projected against the box to move it downwardl out of engagement with plate 23, the lat er being provided with grooves 41 for accommodating the projections of the shoe. As levers 34 are spring-1nounted,they can yield together with the shoe, such yielding being necessary owing to the fact that while plates 23 are rectilinear, levers 34 turn. in the arc of a circle. The box stripped off plates 23, falls into a hopper 43, having a lower egress opening which permits a single box to pass snugly therethrough. In this way the box drops in an upright position upon an endless transport band 44:, operated by shaft 45 and carrying the box back toward the forward end of the ma-' chine. The movement of band 44 should be so slow, that the boxes will be supported upon the same, in close proximity to each other, so that several boxes ma be simultaneously. grasped and removed yhand. In place of levers 34:, 36, a differently con structed stripping device may obviously be employed, suc as a number of continuously rotatingarms that liberate the box from the plates.

A machine of the character described, comprising an endless conveyer, a front Wheel and a rear wheel supporting the same, a core secured to the conveyer in proximity to one of the transverse core-edges, so as to be deflected from the conveyer at the Wheels and to form a pocket for a box blank having laterally extending front and rear flaps, a pair of spaced folders adapted to straddle the core and terminating at their forward end in proximity to the parting line between the conveyer and the front wheel, said folders having inclined upper faces,whereby the front flaps of the blank will glide over the folders, While the rear flaps will be turned up thereby, and a plurality of yieldingly mounted rollers arranged above the conveyer back of said foldersv and adapted to turn the forward section of the blank over the core.

A machine of the character described, comprising an endless conveyer, a front wheel and a rear wheel supporting the same, a core secured to the conveyer in proximity to one of the transverse core-edges, so as to be deflected from the conveyer at the wheels and to form a pocket for a box blank having laterally extending front and rear flaps, a pair of spaced folders adapted to straddle the core and terminating at their forward end in proximity to the parting line between the conveyer and the front wheel, said folders having inclined upper faces, whereby the front flaps of the blank will glide over the folders, while the rear flaps will be turned up thereby, a pluralityof yieldingly mounted rollers arranged above theconveyer back of said folders and adapted to turn the forward section of the blank over the core, and a pair of additional folders arranged back of the rollers and adapted to 'turn the front flaps against the rear flaps.

A machine of the character described, comprising an endless conveyer, a front wheel and a rear wheel supporting the same, a core secured to the conveyer in proximity to one of the transverse core-edges, so as to be deflected from,the conveyer at the wheels and to form a pocket for a box blank having laterally extending front and rear flaps, a pair of spaced folders adapted to straddle the core and terminat'mg at their forward end in proximity to the parting line between the conveyer and the front wheel, said.

A machine of the character described, comprising. anendless conveyer, a front wheel and a rear wheel supporting the same, a core secured to the conveyer in proximity to one of the transverse core-edges, so as to bedefiected from the conveyer at thewheels and to form a pocket for a box blank having laterally extending front and rear flaps, a pair of spaced folders adapted to-straddle the core and terminating-at theirforward end in proximity to the parting line between the conveyer and the front wheel, said folders having inclined upper faces, whereby a the front flaps of the blank will glide over the folders while the rear flaps will be turned up thereby, a plurality of yielding ly mounted rollers arranged above the conveyer backof said folders and adapted to turn the forward section of the blank over the core, a pair of additional folders arranged back of the'rollersand adapted to turn the front flaps against the rear flaps, and stripping means arranged in proximity to the rear.
