REVERSIBLE LAMP-BASE.

To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE A. \VIL- LARD, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reversible Lamp-Bases, of which I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The objects of the invention are to provide a reversible form of lamp base having plungers arranged in pairs which are connected in multiple and in which the operating springs are not conductors of the current and hence can be made of any desired length. By means of this improved form of construction the conductivity is increased and the current has a short and direct path to traverse. To obtain these improved ressults each pair of plungers are arranged side by side and pass entirely through a supporting plate or block of insulating material such as fiber, and are slidingly movable in parallel sleeves in which are inclosed coiled springs for operating the plungers. In each pair of plungers one has a contact tip projecting on one side of the support and the other has a contact tip projecting on the other side, thus producing a staggered or alternating arrangement.
The invention further comprises the combination and arrangement of parts and construction of details as hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the claims.

5, 5, and 6, 6. are the plunger-s arranged in-pairs, the plungers 5,'5, being turned in one direction. and the plungers 6, 6, turned in the other direction. With each pair of plungers are the sleeves 7, 7, in which the plungers are mounted. These sleeves are parallel and arranged closely approximated together and soldered or otherwise electrically connected.

The springs 8, 8, are inclosed without'the sleeves, and exert pressure upon the shoal ders S and T on the plungers and sleeves respectively.
In the figure the current will pass through the lower projecting plunger heads 6, through both sleeves and through the upper projecting plunger heads 5 to the terminals K of the lamp.
The shell is reversible and the lamp or attachment plug can be secured at.either end.
Having described the invention what 'I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a reversible lamp base, in combination a shell, an insulating block therein, contact plungers arranged in pairs therein, the plungers in each pair being arranged parallel and side by side. and projecting from opposite sides of said support. means for electrically connecting said plungers, and actuating springs herefor arranged within said support, and means for attaching a lamp to one end of the base, and an attachment plug to the other end.
2. In a reversible lamp base, in combination a shell, supporting and insulating block therein, sleeves therein in pairs. each pair block. operating springs for said plungers in said sleeves. a lamp electrically connected with one of plungers. and an attachment plug connected with the other set of plunera. a n u 3.
