To all wir-0m t may concern:
Be it known that I, PERRY J. lVALLnn, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Los Angeles, county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shaft- Hangers, of which the following is a specitication.
My invention relates to that class of shaft hangers designed for use with overhead shafting, and the object thereof is to produce a simple and inexpensive hanger provided with means which used in conjunction with a plumb line enables the hanger to be secured in place so as to have the shaft bearings in alinement. I accomplish this object by the hanger described herein and illustrated in. the accompanying drawings in which,

Fig. 3 is a plan of the base of the hanger, that is the part which contacts with the parts to which it is attached. Fig. e is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings 5 and G are the legs or arms of the hanger which are provided with attaching lugs 7 and 8, which lugs are provided with apertures 10 and 11 through which pass the bolts (one of which 12 is shown in Fig. 1) that secure the hanger to suitable supports upon the ceiling of the building.

As far as thus described the hanger is of usual construction.
Upon the center of brace 1B which I will term the base brace, I provide mitwardly projecting lugs 15 which have notches 15a in the outer ends thereof which notches are in the center of the base in the vertical plane which passes through the center of the shaft when the hanger is secured to its support and the shaft is in place in the boxing therein. Upon either side of brace 1li which I will term the boxing brace, I provide outwardly projecting lugs 16 which terminate in points 17, which points are in the vertical plane which passes through the center of the shaft when in place in the Specification o1 Letters Patent.

lVhen positioning hangers containing my improvement, I first secure the hangers to their supports by means of a bolt passed through the base of one of the legs thereof as illustrated in Fig. 1. I then pass a plumb line 19 over the base brace with the line in the notches in the lugs thereon. When the line passes over or registers with the points on the boxing brace I secure the other leg to its support using a bolt and such shims as may be necessary for that purpose.. IVhen all the bearings are secured in that manner, the shafting which is put up will be perfectly true. In case the bearings are quite short, I prefer to place lugs or points 18 on the bearing arms at a point directly below the center of the shaft when in a correct position as shown in Fig. 1 in dotted lines. By this construction simple and inexpensive means are provided when the hanger is cast fo-r enabling the same to be correctly positioned by the use of a plumb line.
I-Iaving described my invention what I claim is:
1. A hanger having a base brace provided with lugs projecting at the sides thereof terminating in notches, said notches being in the vertical plane which passes through the center of the shaft longitudinally when the shaft and hanger are positioned for use, and a boxing brace having out\\'ardly projecting lugs on the sides thereof, said lugs terminating in point-s lying in t-he same plane which passes through the notches.
2. A hanger having a base brace provided with lugs projecting at the sides thereof terminating in notches, said notches being in the vertical plane which passes through the center of the shaft longitudinally when the shaft and hanger are positioned for use and having at the other end thereof projecting lugs terminating in points which lie in the same plane as the notches.
