I Apparatus; and We do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
Our invention relates to tube rolling apparatus and more especially to the rolling of seamless tubing.
The object of our invention is to provide a simple and etlicient form ot mechanism b v means of which the tube-blank when forced through the roll-pass onto the mandrel may be stripped from the mandrel and returned -to the receiving side of the rolls without the necessity of raising the rolls or passing the blank over or under the same. v
To these ends our invention consiste, generally stated, in a two-high mill 'having a pass for the tube in rollinlgr and a dummypass, means for feeding the tube-blank onto f the mandrel bar supported in the roll-pass,
and means 't'or withdrawing the mandrel-bar and the tube thereon and moving the tube and mandrel-bar transversely in line with the dummy-pass, and means 'tor teedinelr the tube hack through the dummy-pass to the receiving' side ot the rolls to be airain brought into aliuement with the working pass`and the mandrel therein 'for :mother passage through 'the rolls.

Atv the opposite side ot the rolls is the mandrel-support ll which consists of the bars 12 which are supported at their ilorward ends by the housingr and at their rear endel in the back-stop 13, said bars passing through said back-stop and having the nuts 14 secured thereto. A movable baclestop 15 is mounted to slide upon the rods 12 and interposed between said movable back-stop 15 and the baek-stop 13 is the removable spacer or block 16. The movable back-stop 15 is moved by means ol the cylinder 17, the piston rod 18 ot which is connected t0 said back-stop. To raiseand lower the removable hlock 1G we. employ a cylinder 19. The sides ol the block lll are preferably slightly tapered as indicated and engage the tapering faces 2() and :'21 otthe back-stops l5 and l for the pui-,pose more fully hereinafter set forth.

With the tubular-blank in line with the dummy pass the blanl is forced through said dummypass and -iftripped from the mandrel-bar 35 until it is 'transferred to the receiving trough G at the other side of the rolls. This stripping of the tubular-blank from the mandrel-bar 35 and the carrying of it through the dummyass may be accomplished by means of suitable feed rolls 37 which are operated by means of cylinders 38. The tubular blxnk may be pushed by any suitable means into position to be seized'by the rolls 37. The trough 6 is now moved over into line with the working-pass of the-rolls by means of the cylinders 8 and at the same time the rack-bar 31 is moved in the opposite direction and the shaft 29 rotated to move the mandrel-bar and its support back into position in line with the working-pass to receive the tubular-blank as itis again fed to the rolls by the pusher 9. In this manner we provide for the transfer of the tubular blank '.to the receiving side of the rolls without passing thev same over or below the rolls and without lifting the rolls, the operation of withdrawing the mandrel-har and moving it laterally being accomplished with great rapidity so that there is little opportunity for the blank to cool in' the transfer back to the receiv'ng side of the rolls.

In apparatus for rolling tubing, the combination with power-driven rolls having a working-pass and a dummy-pass, a inandrel-bar, a. movable back-stopya transversely movable anchor on said back-stop with which said mandrel-bar engages, transversely movable mandrel-bar supports at intervals, and mechanism for moving said anchor-bar and supports simultaneously 'to bring said mandrel-bar and tuloular-blanltl carried thereby into line with the dummypass.
