ROBERT T. BLAKELEY, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO HEATON WRIGHT, TRUSTEE, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
COMBINED STAND, WAXING DEVICE, AND CLEANER FOR FLAT-IRONS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 1 2, 1912.
Application filed April 18, 1911. Serial No. 621.838.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ronnu'r T. Brauucnny, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Bridgeport, county of Fairfield, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Stands, taxing Devices, and Cleaners for Flatlrons; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in combined stand, waxing device and cleaner for flat irons, and has for its object to provide an exceedingly useful and efficient device of this description and one which is readily operated and not at all likely to get out of order.
With these ends in View my invention consists in certain details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and then particularly pointed out in the claims which conclude this description.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of my improvement, Fig. 2 a side elevation thereof with the stand wires elevated, Fig. 3 a side elevation with the stand wires depressed and a flat iron resting thereon, and Fig. 4 a vertical cross section at the line :0, m, of Fig. 2.
Similar numerals of reference denote like parts in the several figures of the drawing.
1 is any suitable base, preferably of metal, and 2 a sheet of waxing compound supported within said base and projecting slightly above the same, the upper surface of said sheet having suitably spaced transversely extending gutters 3.
4 are stand wires whose upper portions are parallel with each other and extend in a horizontal plane above the waxing compound and are depressed as seen at 4 to provide supports for the flat iron. These wires 4 extend downwardly and are pivoted at 5 to opposite sides of the base 1, so that it will be clear that these stand wires may be swung downwardly toward the waxing sheet.
6 are coil springs whose extremities are secured to pins 7 projecting from opposite sides of the base and to the stand wires, the function of these springs being to normally hold said wires in elevated position. The
lower ends of these wires beyond the pivotal points are bent at 9 and projected within slots 8 formed in the sides of the base. and when the stand wires are in the proper elevated position to which they have been brought by the action of said springs said ends will strike against the lower walls of said slots and thereby prevent the overthrow of the wires.
The depressed portions elf not only act as supports for the iron, but when the latter is thrown forward to collapse the stand wires such depressed portions will-enter the gutters 3 and therefore permit the flat under surface of the iron to come into contact with the wax compound 2, and when the iron is raised from said compound, these depressed portions will of course follow closely against the under surface of the iron. and the drawing or backward scraping of the iron against said portions will clean the surface of the iron from surplus wax, but of course it will be clearly understood that this surface of the iron may be readily cleansed by rubbing the same back and forth against the wires if desired.
Of course, it will be readily understood that the main objectof depressing the central portions of the horizontal members of the stand wires is to enable those portions to come fully within the gutters 3 when said wires are collapsed thus enabling the under surface of the iron to come in contact with the waxing compound.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of the character described, comprising a base, a waxing compound supported thereby and having transverse gutters. and spring actuated stand wires pivoted to said base and capable of being collapsed within said gutters.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a base, a waxing compound supported thereby and projecting above the upper horizontal plane thereof and pro vidcd with spaced transversely extending gutters, stand wires having depressed horizontal portions transversely disposed above said compound and downwardly extending end portions that are pivoted to opposite sides of said base, and springs for normally elevating said wires above said compound, whereby when said wires are collapsed with a flat iron resting thereon said depressed portions will enter said gutters and said iron brought into contact with said com pound.
8. In a combined stand, waxing device and cleaner for flat irons, the combination of a base, a waxing compound sheet supported thereby and projecting thereabove and having formed therein spaced gutters which extend transversely across the face of said compound, and resiliently uplifted collapsible supports for the iron which supports in collapsed position are wholly contained within said gutters whereby the bottom of said iron will be brought in contact with said waxing compound.
4. In a combined stand, waxing device and cleaner for flat irons, the combination of a base having oppositely disposed slots in its sides, a sheet of waxing compound supported by said base and projecting thereabove and having formed therein spaced gutters which extend transversely across the face of said compound, spaced stand wires extending transversely above said base and having depressed central portions and with their end port-ions bent at right angles and pivoted to opposite sides of said base the extreme ends of said wires beyond the pivotal points bent and extended within said slots, and springs whose extremities are secured to pins extending from the sides of said base and to said wires whereby the latter are normally returned to elevated position with said extreme ends in abutment against the lower walls of said slots.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT T. BLAKELEY.
