To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT P. Guitar, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mouthpieces for Ozone-Machines, of which the followmg 1s a specification.
This invention relates to mouth-pieces primarily adapted for use in connection with ozone-generating machmes and the obj ect thereof is to provide a mouthpiece preferably adapted to be connected with one terminal of a flexible conducting means such as a hose, the opposite end of which is connected with an ozone-generating means and of such construction that it will normally fit the face and inclose a portion of the nose and mouth of the user of the device.
The invention contemplates provldmg a mouth-piece for the purpose ment1oned,preterably constructed of metal so that the same may be readily sterilized to render it aseptic, if desired, and provided with a tubular eX- tension to receive the conductmg means by which the ozone is conveyed from the generator to the mouth-piece; and 1t also contemplates so forming the mouth-plece that the same will be light and have a suitable conformation to neatly and perfectly fit the face of the user in such a manner that both the nose and mouth are inclosed thereby.
A still further object of the invention 1s to construct the mouth-piece with a gravity valve or gate to permit the entrance of ozone or any other gaseous substance to the mterior thereof and prevent the return of any exhalations from the user of the device into the tubular conducting means, thereby eliminating all danger of contamination of the interior of the latter from the breath or sputum of the user, said gate arranged to readily move to permit the entrance of ozone to the body of the mouth-piece during the inhalation of the user and normally closed by gravity and the force of the exhalations of the patient.
A further object of the invention is to provide the device with a suitable handle by which the same may be held by the patient and also to provide the body portion of the mouth-piece with one or more exits for the exhalations of the user thereof.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement Specification of Letters Patent.

of parts constituting the invention to be hereinafter specificallydescribed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings, in which similar reference numerals indicate like parts in the different figures: Figure 1 is a view in longitudinal section of a mouth-piece embodying this invention; and, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device shown in Fig. 1.
The mouth-piece comprises a cup-shaped body portion 1, preferably formed of thin sheet metal so as to permit the ready sterilization of the same after use. The edge of the open end of the cup-shaped portion 1 is provided with an inwardly-extending V-shaped notch 2 of sufficient size and properly-shaped to receive and nicely inclose the nose of the user of the device and adjacent to this V-shaped notch are projecting portions 3, arranged when the device is in use, to press against the cheeks and with the lower portion of the edge slightly cut away to rest against and form a reasonably tight union with the chin. The cup-shaped portion 1 is provided with one or more lateral openings 5, each preferably surrounded by an ornamental bead 6 through which the exhalations may pass after inhaling the ozone. The rear face of the cup-shaped member 1 is provided with an approximatel y centrally arranged aperture from which extends a tube 7, preferably also constructed of thin sheet metal and united to the body of the member 1 in any preferred manner; but it is entirely within the scope of this invention to make this tubular member 7 integral with the body portion 1, if desired. Vithin the body portion 1 and arranged to normally close the inner end of the tube 7 is a gravity valve or gate 8, preferably provided with a loop 9 at the upper end thereof hinged to a supporting member 10 secured to the inner rear face of the body 1.
A handle is preferably provided to hold the device while in use and I preferably form this handle of a looped wire 11 secured by solder or other means at its upper end 12, either to the tube 7 or to the rear outer face of the member 1.
Experience has thoroughly demonstrated that in using mouth-pieces in connection with ozone-machines the best results are obtained by connecting the ozone-generatingmachine with the mouth-piece by a flexible tubular conducting means, and for this purpose rubber tubing is customarily employed, but I have found by experience that the ozone employed in the treatment of certain diseases by inhalation has an extremely deleterious action on ordinary vulcanized rubber unless protected in some manner from the action thereof and hence I provide a tubular conducting means for the ozonegenerating means to the mouth-piece consisting of a casing of rubber 13 lined wlth a flexible non-corroding varnish 14, or a composition not affected by ozone and impervious thereto, with the result that the inner lining 14 will hold the ozone and prevent deleterious action of the same on the I rubber sheath or tube within which the linthe mouth-piece and projecting over the inner end of said tube, a valve secured to said hinge and extending across the inner end of the tube and permanently out of contact with the inner face of said outer wall, said valve capable of moving inwardly piece having each side provided with an outlet for exhalation.
