Be it known that I, ARCHIBALD S. Ctun'rr,

siding at Pittsfield, -county of Berkshire, State of Massachusetts, have; invented'certain new and useful Improvements in Elecftric Flat-Irons, of which the following is a Specification.A
This invention relates to electrically heated devices such as flat-irons and the like, and has for its object the provision of a device of this character which is .constructed in.
such a way as Vto provide a maximum etticiency with the greatest degree of simplicity.
In the construction of devices of this character it is common to clamp or othergvise secure a heating unit tothe body of the iron to heat the same.' l

This consists in winding a resistance conductor 13 upon a tube 14 of the insulating material, such as pasted mica or the like. ,Y This tube is then flattened onto itself and bent to suitable form, as shown in Fig, 5. v- One of these units 12 is then inserted in leach of; the grooves 11 and is insulated from the metal by a strip ofinsulating material 15, which may also be mica. made between the unit and the body of the iron. The amount of machine work neces sary in an iron constructed in this'way is exceedingly small and the assembling is ac complished without difficulty as there are n.0 parts requiring accuracy of adjustment anddisplacement of the parts is impossible. A
single bolt suiiices to hold all the parts in place, thereby reducing both the cost of assembling and the. cost of material.
The units which I have described are very simple to 'make but it is obvious that my invent-ion is in no sense limited to this particular type of unit.. The two units in the present case are connected together at the point of the iron and the terminals are rought out to the terminal pins Q2.
While I have described my invention asv embodied in concrete structure for purposes is held in position by Aa bolt 2O which eX- of illustration, it should be understood that I do not limit myinvention thereto, since j various modifications thereof will suggest themselves to those skilled in the art withannexed claims.

An electric fiatiron comprising a body portion having 'a groove therein, a heating unit in said groove consisting of autube of insulating material having a resistance conductor mounted thereon and iattened onto itself, and a clamping block conforming to the shape of thegroove for ,pressing the unit into the groove.
