PAPER-HOLDER.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR J. FARRELL, a citizen of the United States of America. residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Paper-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to paper holders, especially designed for holding rolls of toilet paper, and has for its object to providea holder of such class, in a manner as herein set forth, that can be easily and quickly sprung into engagement with the ends of a roll of paper for suspending the roll from the support to which the holder is attached, at the same time not interfering with the re volving means of the roll when withdrawing paper therefrom.
Other objects of the invention are to provide va paper holder which is comparatively simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, efficient in its use, readily attached to a support and to the rolls of paper, and inexpensive to manufacture. V
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations, and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a roller paper holder in accordance with this invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a modified form; Fig. 3 is a sectional detail illustrating either one of the forms referred to and connected to the roll of paper; Fig. 4 is a plan view broken away of one side of the blank from which the holder shown in Fig. 1 is made, or from which the body portion of the holder shown in Fig. 2 is made; Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional View taken through the roll of paper.
Referring to Fig. 1 of the drawing, the holder consists of a body portion formed from a single strip of flat metal bent in yokeshaped form and including an intermediate portion 8 having openings 9 for the passage of hold-fast devices to secure said intermediate portion in position. The holder fur- Specification of Letters Patent.

ther includes a pair of arms 10 which pro ject from the portion 8 and have a tendency to spring toward each other. The arms 10 are disposed at right angles with respect to the portion 8, each of which terminates in a coupling member 11 having formed. integral therewith a cylindrical bearing 12. cylindrical bearings 12 are adapted to extend into the ends of the roll of paper 13 for supporting the same. The bearings 12 are of a length greater than the width of each of the arms at the outer ends thereof.
In Fig. 2, the body portion of the holder is constructed in the same manner as that shown in Fig. 1, like reference characters being employed. Referring to Fig. 2, the holder is constructed from a single strip of material bent to provide an intermediate portion formed with openings 15, through which extend hold-fast devices for securing said intermediate portion to a support. The intermediate portion 14: is slitted, as at 16, to provide a pair of vertically disposed supporting tongues 17 which take over a reinforcing wire 18. Projecting from the intermediate portion 14 are a pair of supporting arms 19, each having its outer end formed with a coupling member 20, which terminates into a cylindrical bearing 21, the bearings 21 oppose each other and extend at right angles with respect to the arms 19, and preferably are of greater length than the width of the arms 19 at their outer ends. Each of the arms 19 is formed with an opening 22, through which extends the end of the reinforcing wire 18, said wire also projecting through keepers 23 which project from the outer face of the arms 19 as well as being struck from said arms. The reinforcing wire intermediate its ends is bent to provide a pair of resilient coils 24, which are arranged within the holder, and these coils in connection with the end portions 25 of the reinforcing wire 18 constitute spring arms for forcing the arms 19 toward each other. The bearings 21 which project from the arms 19 are adapted to enter the ends of the paper roll.
In Fig. 5, a portion of one half of the blank from which the holder is made is illustrated, the portion not shown is identically the same as that illustrated, and in this connection, it will be stated that the blank which is connected at 30 is formed from a strip of suitable metallic material having a The reduced portion 31 at each end, which merges into a rectangular portion 32 having a lug 33 at each end. The blank is bent upon the line 34 to form a supporting arm. The intermediate arms are stamped out to provide the keepers and tongues, and further stamped to provide openings 22. The supporting arms are also stamped to pro vide a rectangular opening 35. The rectangular portions 32 of the blank are bent in cylindrical form to provide the cylindrical bearings 12 and the lugs 33 are extended through the openings 35 and bent to engage the outer face of the supporting arms, whereby the cylindrical bearings 12 are fixedly secured in position. The lugs 33 prevent the cylindrical bearings bending outwardly on the coupling members 11 or 20.
lVhat I claim is:
1. A roll paper holder comprising a yokeshaped body portion capable of being secured to a support and including a pair of supporting arms each terminating at its free end in a coupling member, a cylindrical bearing integral with each of said coupling members and disposed at right angles with respect to said arms, said bearings opposing each other and arranged against the inner face of the arms, and a pair of lugs carried by each of said bearings and ex tending through and engaging said supporting. arms to prevent said bearings from bending outwardly with respect to said coupling members.
2. A roll paper holder comprising a yokeshaped body portion including a pair of supporting arms, a cylindrical bearing integral with the outer end of said arms, and arranged against the inner face of its respective arm, and a reinforcing wire connected to said body portion and having the ends constituting spring arms engaging said supporting arms for forcing these latter toward each other.
3. A roll paper holder comprising a yokeshaped body portion including a pair of supporting arms, a cylindrical bearing inbearings from bending outwardly with respect to said supporting arms.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature 1n the presence of two wltnesses.
ARTHUR J. FARRELL.
