WILLIAM H. LARAWAY, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
VENDING-MACHINE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. LARAVVAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Vending-Machine, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in vending machines.
The primary object of the invention is to provide simple means for forcing the article to be vended to a point where the same may be removed by the purchaser upon the insertion of a coin of the proper denomination.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a front elevation partly in section. Fig. 2 is a transverse section.
In the drawings 10 designates the casing which is formed with the vertically extending article supply receptacles 11, these receptacles are provided with a base plate 12, which extends beyond the receptacles and is formed with the upturned extension 14.
The device is primarily intended for vend; ing cylindrical articles or packages which are arranged within the receptacles 11, the lowermost pencil or article resting within the concaved portion 1a of the base plate 12.
The casing 10 is provided with an opening 16 through which extends an operating lever 17. This operating lever which is depressed to operate the mechanism is connected to a longitudinally disposed bar 18 the end portions of which are journaled in the side walls of the casing, trunnions extending from the bar adjacent one of its edges. Disposed parallel with the bar and arranged below the same is a second bar 21 which supports a plurality of arms 22, the spring 19 contacting with the bar 21, to hold the operating handle 17 in raised position.
The casing is provided with coin openings 24:, there being a number of coin openings suiiicient to correspond with the number of article receptacles.
The pivoted members 22 are provided with the of]. set extensions 25 which extend through apertures in the base plate 12, the off set ends 25 contacting with the articles Specification of Letters Patent.

to be vended, where by the depression of the member 17 said ofi' sets will be projected through the base plate to force the article through an opening 26 in the casing.
The bar 18 is provided with slots which register with the coin slots 24:, the coin deposited within the slot 24 passing through the slot in the bar 18, and falling on one of the bars 22.
The bar 18 is provided with the beveled under face 27 and the coin lodges between said beveled face and one of the bars 22.,
With the coin in this position the lever 17 is depressed, which causes the depression of the outer end of one of the arms 22, its portion 25 contacting with the article to be vended, forcing said article through the opening 26, the coin forming the connecting link between the bar 18 and the arm 22 whereby said arm and link move as one member. After the bar 18 has been depressed, by means of the handle or lever 17 the coin falls through an opening 27 in the arm 22 within a drawer 28, the spring 19 returning the bar 18 to its normal position, the arm 22 assuming its normal position, said arm being pivoted above its center, the same thus assuming its normal position by gravity.
The many advantages of a device of this character will be clearly apparent as it will be noted that the same aflords simple and convenient means for vending the article upon the insertion of a coin of the proper denomination.
Attention is called to the fact that the coin must be of a certain size to actuate the bar 22 as a smaller coin will fall upon said bar and pass through the opening 28 in the same.
What is claimed is In a vending machine, a casing, a substantially rectangular bar disposed longitudinally of said casing, said bar being arranged at an angle with respect to the base of the casing, an article ejector pivotally supported by said bar, said ejector comprising a bar one end of which is bifurcated, and the other end of which is provided with an offset, a second bar disposed longitudinally of the In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I havehereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
WILLIAM H. LARAWAY.

casing, trunnions extending from said bar at a oint adjacent one of its edges, said trunnlons pivotally supportin said bar, said bar being slotted, the under :tace of the bar 5 adjacent said slot being beveled, and a resilient connection between said bar and the first mentioned her.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each," by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, DI 0.?
