ICE-BOX 0R REFRIGERATOR LINING.
Specification of Letters Eatent.
Patented Feb. 13, 31912..
Application filed. March 9, 1906. Serial No. 305,045.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM voN BAuM- EACH, a citizen of the United States, res1ding at Milwaukee, in the county of Mllwaukee and State of l/Visconsin, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Ice- Box or Refrigerator Linings, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
The main objects of this invention are to produce independently of the casin or housing, a strong durable ice box or re igerator lining which will not leak, which can be easily kept clean, and which will avoid waste of ice, and generally to simplify and 1mprove the construction of devices of this class.
It consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter particularly described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing like letters ate the same parts in both figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of an ice box or refrigerator lining constructed in accordance with the invention; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same on the line 2 2, Fig. 1.
The lining a, which may be made of various forms and dimensions, is shown for the purpose of illustration as of rectangular form and having five closed sides. It is made in one piece of some suitable plastic material. A composition consisting of the following ingredients in about the following proportions is well adapted for the purpose: 100 pounds asbestos fiber, ounds wood fiber (sawdust), 100 pounds llquid magnesite. This composition, which makes a good nonconductor of heat, is capable of being easily molded into the desired form and produces a tough durable and comparatively light monolithic structure impervious to air and moisture. It is of a close homogeneous texture and molds with even smooth surfaces which may be enameled or otherwise finished if desired. It will not break or crack easily, being sufliciently elastic and tough to resist the blows and strains to which ice box or refrigerator linings are ordinarily subjected.
The internal corners of the lining are preferably coved or rounded as shown at b, to prevent fracture along the lines of the anglesand to avoid sharp corners or creases in which dirt will collect and which it is difficult to keep clean.
The lining isceptaole and shelf-supporting frame which may be conveniently constructed as shown, of galvanized iron pipe or metal rods. The upright members 0 of this frame are threaded at the ends and secured in the upper and lower ends of the lining by nuts and washers d, bot-h inside and outside of the lining. The ends of the lining where the uprights c are secured therein, are preferably reinforced on the outside by metal strips e, through perforations in which said members pass, the washers of the outer nuts 'being. seated against said strips. The uprights 0 are connected by cross members f, which rovided with an ice re-' may be attached thereto as shown, by ordinary T fittings or couplings g. These cross members support an ice receptacle (not shown) or a shelf h, on which such receptacle is. carried, while extra shelves such as h, for holding articles to be kept in the ice box or refrigerator,'may be removably and adjustably mounted on said uprights.
The ice box or refrigerator will of course be provided on the open side with a suitable door which may be made of or lined with the same compositlon or material of which the main lining itself is constructed.
The lining may be permanently built into a house or other structure, or for a portable refrigerator, may be inclosed in a casing of wood, tile, metal or other suitable material, either with or without an interlining or filling of asbestos, sawdust or other material usually em loyed for the purpose in the constructlon o refrigerators.
Various changes in the form and details of construction of the lining and the nature and proportions of the ingredients of the composition entering into the construction of the lining may be made without departing from the principle and intended scope of the invention.
I claim:
- An ice box or refrigerator lining having its top and bottom, back, and two slde walls formed integral with each other to constitute percentage of wood fiber, substantially as a seamless lining without joints, having the internal corners alon the lines of the angles at the sides and bacfi of the lining curved, and consisting of a non-conducting, noncont-mctibleend non-expansible composition formed of substantially equal parts of asbestos and magnesite and materlally smaller described. 10 In Witness whereof I hereto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
