SASI-I-IULLEY.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 13, 1912.
Application filed December 14, 1911. Serial No. 665,729.
To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, FREDERICK EGGE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Bridgeport, county of Fairfield, and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Pulleys; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain improvements in the construction and assembly of sash pulleys and has for its object to provide a device of this description which shall be exceedingly simple, strong, and readily assembled without the use of any tools or special securing devices, and with these ends in view my invention consists in certain details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and then particularly pointed out in the claims which conclude this description.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a face elevation of my improved pulley- Fig. 2 an inside elevation of the face plate- Fig. 3 a plan view of the housing as it appears when assembled-Fig. 4 a side elevation of the pulley-Fig. 5 a section at the line as', w, of Fig. 6, and Fig. 6 a rear elevation of the completed pulley.
Similar numerals of reference denote like parts in the several figures of the drawing.
1 is the face plate provided with countersunk perforations 2 for the accommodation of screws to fasten the pulley within its mortise, said face plate having a centrally disposed elongated opening 8 for the accommodation of the pulley wheel, as will be hereinafter described. The edges of this face plate are bent rearwardly as shown at 4 at right angles to the plate itself so as to provide a strengthening rib which latter also contributes toward the proper fitting of the face plate within its mortise. The opposite sides of the bent edge 4 are lanced, and the lanced portions are driven inwardly so as to provide skeleton ears 5 that are spaced from the rear face of the plate 1.
The pulley housing proper is composed of two similar housing sections 6, 7 and these sections have extending from their lower outer edges flanges 8, 9, and these flanges are lanced and the lanced portions are forced rearwardly so as to provide shoulders 10,11.
In assembling my improved sash pulley, one of the housing sections is placed in position against the rear of the plate 1 with its flange immediately beneath the ears 5 at one edge of the plate, and with the shouldered portions of its flange abutted against said ears, and then the other housing section is similarly assembled with respect to the ears at the other side of the plate, and when these housing sections are thus assembled they will appear as is illustrated in Fig. 6. The pulley wheel 12 is then placed within the housing and suitably journaled therein by means of a pin 13 which extends through the sides of the housing sections and through the pulley itself, the extremities of said pin being suitably headed or riveted against the outside faces of said sections. I
The ears 5 are separated from the rear face of the plate 1 by a space sutlicient to accommodate the flanges 8, 9, and therefore these ears will serve to confine the housing sections 6, 7 firmly to the face plate while the shoulders 10, 11, prevent any displacement of the sections 6, 7, lengthwise of said plate.
From the above it will be observed that the face plate and the housing sections are assembled without the use of any tool or any fastening devices such as screws or riveted portions. I claim 1. In a sash pulley, the combination of a face plate having its outer edges bent rearwardly at right angles to the face of said plate and provided with inwardly extending ears that are suitably spaced from the rear face of said plate, complementary housing sections having flange portions provided with shoulders projecting therefrom, said portions adapted to be confined between said ears and the rear face of said plate wit-h said shoulders and ears in abutment, and the pulley suitably journaled within said housing sections.
9.. In a sash pulley, the combination of the face plate having its outer edges bent rearwardly at right angles to the face of said plate and having opposite sides of said bent portions lanced and driven inwardly and a pulley Wheel journaled Within said to form ears that are spaced from the rear housing,` sections. 10 face of said plate, complementary housing In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature sections having flanges extending from their in presence of two Witnesses.
