HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NEW JERSEY.
TWIN WASTE FOR SOAPSTONE WASHTUBS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 8, 1910.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD E. FLYNT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Twin Waste for Soapstone VVashtubs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved twin waste for soapstone wash-tubs, which is simple and durable in construction, easily fastened in place and readily connected with the waste pipe.
For the purpose mentioned, use is made of a shallow waste basin, open at the top and provided with an outwardly extending marginal flange fitting against the under side of the wash-tub bottom, the said basin extending beyond both sides of the usual wash-tub partition, so that outlets in the Wash-tub bottom open into the said shallow basin, which latter is connected at its flange by bolts with the flanges of the plug seats seated in the said outlet openings, so that both the plug seats and the basin are fastened by the bolts to the bottom of the wash-tub.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of the improvement as applied on a two-compartment wash-tub; Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view of the twin waste; Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of the same as applied, the section being on the line 83 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a transverse section of the same on the line 41- 1 of Fig. 2.
The wash-tub A, of soapstone or a similar material, is provided with the usual partition B, dividing the wash tub into compartments C and D, each of which is provided with suitable hot and cold water supply fixtures E, as indicated in Fig. 1. Against the under side of the bottom F of the wash-tub A fits the marginal flange G of a shallow waste basin G, into which open the outlet openings H formed in the bottom F and leading from the compartments 0 and D. Each of the outlet openings H is provided with a suitable plug seat I, for
opening and closing the compartment C or D, and each plug seat I is provlded wlth an outwardly-extendmg flange I, engaged by bolts J, which extend through the bottom.
with a depending nipple G into which opens the flaring outlet G and the said nipple G2 is exteriorly engaged by the head K of the waste pipe K, and the head K is engaged externally by a coupling L, provided with lugs L, in register with corresponding lugs G held on the front and rear sides of the basin G, extending diametrically opposite the nipple G the lugs L and G being engaged by bolts N, for fastening the coupling L in place, thus holding the head K of the waste pipe K in firm position on the nipple G Into the basin G also opens an overflow opening 1?, formed in the bottom F adjacent to one side of the partition B, and into the said overflow opening P extends the lower end of an overflow pipe 0, provided near the bottom with a flange O seated on the upper surface of the bottom F. The waste pipe 0 fits against one side of the partition B within the compartment D, and the upper end of the waste pipe 0 is fastened to the partition B by a screw bolt or other fastening device Q, as plainly indicated in Fig. 1. The upper end of the waste pipe O is a shortdistance below an aperture R, formed in the partition B, as indicated in Fig. 1.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the twin waste can be readily fastened in position on the bottom F of the wash-tub, together with the plug seats I, and on the basin G can be readily fastened the waste pipe K, so that it requires but a short time to connect the wash tub with the waste pipe.
The device is very simple and durable in construction, and leakage is prevented as the joint between the flange G and the under side of the bottom F, is made water-tight by the use of white lead or a similar packing.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. The combination with a wash tub having a transverse partition and outlet openings in its bottom, one at each side of the partition, of a shallow elongated basin on the under side of the tub and into which the outlet openings thereof lead, said basin being provided at its top with an outwardly extending marginal and apertured flange, a central discharge nipple projecting from its bottom, and a slotted lug on each side at its center of length below the flange for securing a waste pipe thereto, cup-shaped plug seats fitting in the outlet openings of the tub and having marginal and apertured flanges fitting upon the inner side of the bottom of the tub, bolts extending through .the bottom of the tub and the apertured flanges of the basin and plug seats.
2. A twin waste for a two compartment wash tub, comprising a shallow elongated Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each,
waste basin open at the top and having amarginal apertured flange adapted to fit against the under side of a wash tub and to be bolted thereto, said basin being provided at 1ts center with a tapering nipple projecting from its under side, and with a laterally projecting lug on each side at its center of length below the said flange, said lugs being provided with openings to receive the bolts by which the waste pipe is secured to the nipple of the basin.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
