RING- GAGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FERDENAND T. PLAoK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harrisburg, in the county of Dauphin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ring- Gages, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in ring gages, the object of the invention being to provide a simple, inexpensive construction which may be readily placed on any finger, and which may be quickly adjusted so as to fit the finger, and at the same time indicate the size of a ring to fit the finger.
A further object is to provide an article of manufacture of this character which is designed not only for jewelers use, but also for use by the general public, so that any one may readily ascertain the ring size of any particular finger.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is a plan view showing the gage in position on a finger. Fig. 2, is an edge view. Fig. 3, is a view in side elevation, and Fig. 4, is a broken view in section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
In constructing my improved gage, I employ two strips 1 and 2 of spring metal, both being curved, and the strip 1 lying inside of strip 2. The ends of these strips are located side by side as shown in Fig. 1, and relatively small metal straps 3 are passed between the strips 1 and 2 at both ends of the strips. These straps are folded back over the strips, and secured by rivets 4. On top of these straps 3, and if desired, integral therewith, enlargements 5 are formed, and these enlargements extend over the double thickness where the strips overlap as clearly shown. The outer strip 2, at both ends, is provided with scales 6, and these scales ride under the straps 3, and enlargements 5, and record against said enlargements the size of the circle formed by the device. In other words, the ring which is formed by the said strips 1 and 2 and the other parts may be contracted or expanded by moving the enlargements 5 away from or toward each other. This enables the device to be fitted on any finger, and when fitted, it is simply necessary to glance at the scale, which is alike on both sections, and it will indicate the size of the ring which will fit that finger.
As the straps 3 which secure the parts together project between the two strips 1 and 2, the inner surface of the device is always smooth, and free from obstruction regard less of the adjustment of the device. As the strips 1 and 2 are spring metal, and as there is sutficient friction between the parts to resist this spring, the device will maintain its position of adjustment, but may be easily adjusted to some other size.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letter Patent is:
1. A ring gage comprising two strips located one inside of the other, and straps secured to the ends of said strips and projected between said strips, substantially as described.
