To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, LEO IATZENSTEIN,'21 subject of the German Emperor, and residing at \Viesbaden, Germany, have 111- vented certain new and useful Improve ments in Apparatus for Moistening and Separating Stamps and the Like, of which the following is a specification.

The subject-matter of my inventlon is an improved apparatus for moistening and separating stamps, labels and tickets of optional kind wound up in rolls, in which apparatus the stamps or the like are guided on a rocking table and moistened by a moistening pad arranged thereon and subsequently separated from the strip by securing the strip of stamps or the like by pressure. I

The subject-matter of my invention is distinguished from known similar apparatus by the rocking plate formed as a two-armed lever and well-known per 80 having its front lever arm formed as a holder for the moistening pad, while the rear lever arm forms a feed table which is located in one plane with the moistening surface and which securely presses the next stamp or the like against an abutment when the pad is pressed for the purpose of moistening the front stamp or the like.

One illustrative embodiment of my invention is represented by way of example in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section through the apparatus showing the moistening pad depressed, while Fig. 2 is a like view of the apparatus in its normal preparatory position.

Referring to the drawing, the plate f, which is integral with or attached to the casing or box a containing the one or more rolls Z), has in its upper face a recess or cavity h, in which the receptacle or holder 2' containing the moistening pad (Z is journaled; this holder is pressed by a spring m and rocks around a pivot 70. The end wall of the holder 27 facing the box a. is connected with a pressure arm or plate Z, whose top face is in the plane of that of the pad d. A cross-bar n is placed over the end of the chamber it adjacent to the box a, which cross-bar is ribbed 01' indented on its bottom side and may be provided with a strip of india-rubber in order to be able to exercise elfective frictional pressure against the strip of paper under it.

IVhen the front stamp or the like is over the pad (Z, for the purpose of moistening thegummed surface of this stamp or the like the same is pressed. The holder 71 carrying the pad then rocks againstthe action of the spring on out of the position shown in Fig. 2 into that shown in Fig. 1, and the next stamp or the like, which is on the plate Z, is firmly pressed between the latter and the cross-bar n so that the pressed stamp or the like is separated from the strip when it is pulled. I

The pad d rocks back, when released, into the position shown in Fig. 2 so that the stamp or the like on the plate Z can be pulled over the pad 03 when required.

The detaching device may also be employed in combination with any desired devices which are for containing and delivering stamps, labels and tickets intended for various purposes, namely with devices which do not require a moistening device. In this form of my invention I provide a simple rocking plate instead of the holder containing the pad.

I claim 1. In an apparatus for moistening and separating stamps and. the like, the combination of a container for a strip of stamps, a two-armed rocking lever arranged in front of the container and over which the stamps may be drawman abutment fixed over the rear of the lever and a moistening pad on the outer end of the lever, said rear end being adapted to grasp the stamp between itself and the abutment by the pressure that presses the stamp against the pad to moisten the same, whereby a stamp may be separated.

2. In an apparatus for moistening and separating stamps and the like, the combination of a container for a strip of stamps, a

two-armed rocking lever arranged in front of the container and over which the stamps may be drawn, an abutment fixed over the rear of the lever and a moistening pad on the outer end of the lever.
