TYPE-WRITING- MACHINE.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 30,1912.
Application filed May 9, 1910. Serial' No. 560,119;
. quently it is sometimes withdrawn before it becomes necessary or the end if not set exactly parallel to the axis of the platen will spring out while the last -line on the sheet is being typed. Moreover in manifolding workit is inadvisable to type too close-to the end of the paper as the underlying-carbon and copy sheets have a tendency to move upward and the last line or two on the top or original sheet may consequently not be reproduced on the un.
. derlying copy ,sheets.
Now the object of this invention `is to `provide a device whereby the .termination of the papery will be optically indicated 'to the o; erator and of simple construction and readily adjustable.
The essential features of this invention comprise a mirror adapted to reflect an image to the operators line of vision of the underneath of the platen at or near the end of its travel.
Having reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate a practical method of carrying out this invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device shown in position and attached to an ordinary standard typewriting machine and having a supplementary mirror for dire? ing light on the under side of the platif Fig. 2 a diagrammatic view indicating by arrows the direction of the light and vision rays. Fig. 3 a similar view to Fig. 1 showing an unattached device.
Referring. to Figs. 1 and Q-to the left hand side of an ordinary typewriting machine 5 is ahixed a bracket 6 having hinged thereto a double radial arm 7 one member of which has a hollow vertical stem 8 into which telescopes an adjustable vertical rod 9. To the upper end of this vertical rod 9 is hinged a mirror 10 and so positioned underneath the platen 11 that the left hand side 12 of the paper 13 will be visible in the mirror 10 to, the operator every time the platen 11 reaches the end or near the end of its travel to the left hand side of the machine. The termination of the paper 13 is indicated by the lower left hand corner 1l reiected in the mirror 10. To the bracket 6 is also hingedlanother similar double radial arm 15 one member of ywhich has a vertical hollow stem 1G for the adjustable vertical rod 17having hinged thereto a mirror 18 for the purpose of directing light underneath the platen 11 thereby-iendering more distinct the image reflected in the mirror 10.
Referring to Fig. 3 the vertical rod 9 of the mirror 10 telescopes a vertical hollow `stem 19 integral with the base Q0.' Movably `mirrors and adjustable connections between said support and said mirrors.
2. In an attachment for typewriters, in combination, a mirror for reflecting light upon the under side of the platen of the machine, a mirror for reflecting an image of the under side of the yplaten andl the work sheet thereon, a support for said mirrors and universally adjustable connections between said support and said mirrors.
