AUGUSTIN L. TAYEAU, OF OHAPTICO, MARYLAND.
Letters Patent N 101,540, dated April 5, 1870.
REVOLVING SULKY-HARROW AND SEBDBR, COMBINED.
The schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same,
I open spaces on each side of the cleats, to avoid clog ging with dirt, and also to increase their traction.
These cleats are strengthened by ribs around the inner orcouter sides of the wheel-rims, as fancy elects, and
the spokes are arched attheir extremities when the wheel-rims are so perforated.
ThesegmentsR are bolted to the arms I), and are sustained by the rollers X overlapping their flanges.
The quadrants T are secured upon a bar, Z, which passes through the frameE undenthe flooring.
' The lever P issecured on this bar Z to the right of the drivers seat,.an d has a stop "on one side, t'or engaging with the notches in theradial bar 0.
This radial bar 0 is bolted down on the middle and. rear cross-pieces. r i
The lever P, operating through the barZ and quadrants T, actuates the segments R and arms 1), for
raising, lowering, or gauging the revolving harrow.
The revolving harrow-cylhnlerM is formed by twistiug a square bar 'of iron a qua'rter circlc,.and slipping on it the sockets h. These socket-s may be separated by washers of any desirable thickness or material.
- The sockets are tightened toward the center of the cylinder by a screw-nut at each ehd of the cylind bar'inside of the arms 1), and=za liiose washer plays between these screwnutsand the armsl), i'orthe purpose of avoiding too much friction. I
Into these sockets ic teeth g are secured at their base by bolts, and near the ends of the sd'ckets by sockets it may bekeyed upon it in any rred pattern 3 and, in land free of stones and roots,
' the bar forming the cylinder M maybe the socket and wooden-pin arrangement may be superseded by a plain tooth slipped on the bar like the sockets, and separated by washers, as aforesaid.
The hub of the main wheel A, as seen in the plan of detail, is slightly turned off, to receive the movable chain-wheel No. 2. This hub is also mounted with ribs, for engaging with the clutches on the chain-wheel No. 2; and the inner side of this chain-wheel has a collar, for' receivingthe fork of the rod a, which is hooked onto the foot-lever U, as seen-in sheet 2.
This lever U is pivoted to the cross-piece S, and has a shoe, which engages with the trigger Q. This trigger is also pivoted to the cross-piece S, and has a spring behind it, for pressingit into gear with the shoe -of the lever U. A pin in front of the trigger prevents its passing the center. I The rod a slides through a clamp united to the under side of the frame E near the cross-piece S.
A spring on this'side of the frame E presses against the-rod a, and thus holds the chain-wheel No. 2 in gear with the ribs on the main-wheel hub when the shoe oi the lever U is released from the trigger Q An endless chain, No. 5, on the chain-wheel No. 2 operates the chain-pinion No. 4.
This 'chain'pinion No. 4 has a cog-pinion on its inner side, which meshes with pinion Nb. 8-.-
lhis pinion No. 3 is movable, and may be held out of gear by withdrawing the in nor key li'om'its journal,
and then slipping it back'toward the box No. 1,.and
there coniinc it by putting the key in the hole outside of it.
The rods in the grain and guano-box N 0. 1 are mounted with flanges, for distributing the contents of the box through the holes in the bottom.
The slides in the box-bottom are set to a gauge by thumb-screws underneath the box.
The seeding-rods are secured in the box by suitable boxes bolted to the bottom.
The heels of the rods rest in pipes in the side of the box opposite the pinions, and the heads of the journals of the pinions have'a slot, into which is fitted the ends of the seeding-rods, which are tenoned for the purpose, and are thus rendered removable at will.
These journals restin pipes in the side of the box next the pinions, and are entered from the inside:
A cam on the inner side of the chain-wheel No. 2 operates the grasssc'ed rod N 0. 8, which bears against a spring on the side of the frame E.
The rod No.8 has a small roller on its forward vrend, for traversing the cam,
This rod is pivoted ou t he journal of, the roller V, audits rear end is provided with an eye, for booking onto the grass-seed traveler-rod.
This rerolving barrow and seeder may be attache-Fl .to a steam-plow, when desirable, by nnshipping the pole, and attaching it to the plows by suitable bars and bolts. I

combination with pinion No.3, hub-ribs on wheel A,
foot-lever U, spring triggerQ, hook-rod a, and spring and grass-seeder rod and spring No. 8, operatingas and for the purpose set forth.
4. The construction and arrangement of the eylindrieal liarrow M, sockets 71, teeth 9, braces 'r, and
socket-rings w, constructed and operating asand for the purpose herein set forth and described.
5. The arrangement of 'the slip elutch pinions O and clutch-pins m, in combination with the journals e, all to a revolving harrow and seeder combined, operating substantially as and for the purpose'hereiu set forth and described.
