ELECTRIC FIXTURE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN NEUHOEFER, ARTHUR PoLAoHnoK, and WILLIAM POLA- CHECK, citizens of the United States, and residents of Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Electric Fixtures, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in electric fixtures and more particularly to fixtures adapted for household illuminating purposes.
It is one of the objects of the invention to provide an electric fixture which is simple in construction and is inexpensive to manufacture and which may be easily adapted to various modifications.
A further object of the invention is to provide an electric fixture which is universal in its character to the extent that it may be used as a two, three, four or five arm fixture.
A further object of the invention is to provide an electric fixture in which the inner tube, usually provided in ordinary fixtures, is omitted.
A further object of the invention is to provide an electric fixture the parts ofwhich may be easily assembled by unskilled labor and when assembled the parts will be securely and rigidly fastened together.
A further object of the invention is to provide an electric fixture in which provision is made for easily wiring the fixture for illuminating purposes.
l/Vith the above, and other objects in View, the invention consists of the electric fixture and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claims, and all equivalents thereof.
In the accompanying drawing in which the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the improved electric fixture, the ends of the horizontal arms being broken off and parts of the supporting tube being omitted; Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view thereof taken on line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a detail view, partly in section, of a modified form of fixture.

indicates the tubular ceiling fixture which is fastened to the ceiling in any manner desired and depends therefrom and is adapted to support the improved fixture. The lower end of this ceiling fixture is reduced in diameter as indicated by the numeral 9 to accommodate the upper end of the vertical fixture tube 10 and to form a flush joint therewith. The upper end of the vertical tube fits over the reduced portion of the ceiling fixture and is held thereto by screws 11 which pass through openings in the tube and are threaded into the ceiling fixture.
The lower end of the vertical tube surrounds the upstanding tubular portion 12 of the clamping bracket 13 and is fastened thereto by screws 14 in the same manner as the upper portion of the vertical tube. The clamping bracket comprises the tubular portion 12 provided with the integral clamping ring 15 and the movable clamping ring 16 which is provided with an alining hub 17. This hub surrounds the tubular portion 12 and is held in clamped relation therewith by means of the clamping nut 18 which is threaded on the lower threaded end of the tubular portion 12. These rings are provided with registering recesses 19 into which extend the inner ends of the tubular arms 20 and these arms are tightly clamped between the rings by the clamping nut 18. The arms are formed of tubes provided with tubular end connections 21 rigidly fastened to the tubes and having reduced end portions 22 which extend between the rings and into the recesses thereof.

In order to securely hold the connections in clamped position and against accidental turning they are provided with apertures 22 and the lower ring 16 has a tooth 23 projecting upwardly from each recessed portion which enter the apertures of the con nections. The recessed portions of the upper ring are also provided with teeth 24 or serrations which bi te into the connections and serve to more securely hold the said connections.
It is to be understood that ordinary fixtures (not shown) are fastened to the outer ends of the arms.
The two rings are provided with alining means to provide for keeping the recesses in register and this means is in the form of the depending lug 25 projecting from the upper ring which extends between the two inwardly projecting lugs 26 of the lower The tubular portion 12 of the bracket is provided with an opening 27 to permit wires (not shown) extending therethrough and which are adapted to pass through the tubular connections and arms to the fixtures on the outer ends thereof.
The recesses, six in number, are so positioned that either two, three or four tubular arms may be clamped between the rings and spaced equi-distant apart and the recesses not provided with arms are provided with filling plugs 28 which extend into the recesses and give a more ornate appearance to the fixture.
Spun covers 29 of any desirable design are adapted to extend over and cover the rings and overlap each other at the peripheries of the rings and at the points of location of the recesses are provided with coincident slots 30 to accomodate the connections. The shoulders 31 formed by the reduced portions of the connectors serve to cover the slots of the covers. A nipple 32 threaded into the lower end of the tubular portion 12 of the bracket extend through the lower portion of the lower cover and has an ornamental nut 33 threaded thereon which is adapted to hold an illuminating fixture if desired.
When it is desired to extend the vertical tube a tubular coupling 34 is provided and over the reduced ends of which the vertical tubes extend and are fastened by screws 35 which pass through screw holes in the tubes and are threaded into the coupling.
In the modified form shown in Fig. 4 the tubes are square in cross section and the clamping bracket members 15 and 16 are of rectangular shape to correspond and otherwise are similar in construction with the exception that the upper ring member 15 is provided with a single tooth 36 proje'cting from each recessed portion which is adapted to enter apertures 37 in the upper portions of the square tubes.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the fixture is adapted to be used for two, three, four or five arms and may be entirely assembled before being connected to the ceiling fixture.
The fixture is very simple in construct-ion, easily assembled and is well adapted for the purpose desired.
Vhat we claim as our invention is:
1. An electric fixture, comprising a vertically extending tube, a clamping ring rigidly connected to the end thereof and provided with a depending tubular threaded portion, another tubular clamping ring loosely surrounding the depending tubular portion, both of said rings provided with recessed edge portions, tubular arms extending into the recesses, and a nut threaded on the tubular threaded portion for clamping the tubular arms between the rings.
2. An electric fixture, comprising a vertically extending tube, a clamping ring rigidly connected to the end thereof and provided with a depending tubular threaded portion, another tubular clamping ring loosely surrounding the depending tubular portion, both of said rings provided with recessed edge portions, tubular connectors extending into the recessed portions of the rings, tubular arms carried by said connectors, and a nut threaded on the tubular threaded portion for clamping the connectors between the rings.
3. An electric fixture, comprising a vertically extending tube, a clamping ring rigidly connected to the tube and provided with a depending tubular portion, another clamping ring loosely surrounding the tubular portion, both of said rings provided with recessed edge portions, tubular arms extending into the recesses, and means for clampingly drawing the rings together.
4. An electric fixture comprising a vertically extending tube, a clamping ring rigidly connected to the lower end of the tube and provided with a depending tubular portion, another clamping ring loosely mounted on the tubular portion of the first mentioned ring, said rings provided with registering recessed portions having projecting teeth, tubular arms extending into the recesses and provided with perforations into which the teeth are adapted to enter, and means for clampingly drawing the rings together.
5. An electric fixture, comprising a vertically extending tube, a clamping ring rigidly connected to the lower end of the tube and provided with a depending tubular portion, another clamping ring loosely mounted on the tubular portion of the first mentioned ring, said rings provided with registering recessed portions having projecting teeth, tubular connectors extending into the recesses of the rings and provided with perforations into which the teeth are adapted to enter, tubular arms connected to and extending from the connector, and means for clampingly drawing the rings together.
6. An electric fixture, comprising a vertically extending tube, a clamping ring rigidly connected thereto and provided with a depending tubular threaded portion having a side opening, another tubular clamping ring loosely surrounding the tubular portion, both of said rings provided with recessed edge portions and one of the rings having teeth projecting from the recessed portions, connectors extending into the recessed portions of the rings and provided with recesses which are entered by the teeth, tubular arms carried by the connectors, and a nut threaded on the tubular threaded portion for clamping the connectors between the rings.
7. An electric fixture, comprising a vertically extending tube, a clamping ring rigidly connected thereto and provided with a tubular depending portion, another tubular clamping ring loosely surrounding the tubular portion, both of said rings provided with recessed edge portions and with means for holding the recessed portions of one ring in alinement with recessed portions of the other ring, tubular members extending into said recesses, and a nut threaded on the depending tubular portion to clamp the 15 members between the rings.
