Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed September 30, 1910. Serial No. 584,711.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HUTCHINGS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Iron Rests, Polishers, and VVaxers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in a combined iron-rest, polisher and waxer, the object being to provide receptacles which are hinged together, and one receptacle containing the asbestos for forming a holder for a sad iron, while another receptacle will receive the polishing pad, and the third will contain the wax.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a plan view showing the invention ready for use, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the invention. as disclosed in Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is view showing the receptacles folded together.
A, represents the receptacle for supporting a sad iron, B, the receptacle for the polishing pad, and C, the receptacle for the wax. Each receptacle is preferably made of metal having a bottom 1, which is made concave for fanning a convex upper surface 2. Extending upwardly from the bottom 1 are the sides 3 which are provided with inturned flanges 4. A plurality of layers 5 of asbestos are inserted in the receptacle A, and the edges of the asbestos sheets 5 are held in the receptacle by the flanges 4. The convex upper surface of the bottom 1 causes the asbestos sheets to conform thereto, thereby presenting a convex surface so that the central portion of the sheets is above the flanges 4. A pluralityof layers or sheets 6 of emery paper or cloth are inserted in thereceptacle B in the same manner as the asbestos sheets 5 are inserted in the receptacle A. An asbestos sheet 7, saturated in wax is received and held in the receptacle C by the flanges 4. The asbestos sheet is saturated and coated nith wax, and over the upper surface of the sheet of asbestos a layer of cloth. 8 is placed, which is received beneath the flanges 4.. and 1n folding the several receptacles together, the receptacle A is folded over upon the receptacle B, and then the receptacle C is folded upon receptacle A.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided a simple device for cleaning, polishing, waxing, and holding an iron, which consists of three receptacles, all of which are capable of being folded together, and the material used for carrying out the object of my invention can be replaced at any time. By providing a plurality of sheets, when the uppermost sheet becomes worn or useless, it can .be removed, and a new sheet is presented for use. Furthermore, the concave bottom of the receptacles causes the central portion of the sheets received therein to be raised so that the iron will always be brought into cont-act with the material in the receptacles.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An iron-holder comprising a receptacle having inturned flanges and a concave bottom forming a convex upper surface, and layers of material received in the receptacle beneath the flanges, adapted to be held above the flanges by the convex upper surface of the bottom of the receptacle whereby the layers will be in aposition to be engaged by a sad iron, said layers being impinged by the flanges and convex upper surface of the bottom, for confining the layers within the receptacle.
2. A combined iron-holder, polishing and waxing device comprising a plurality of receptacles hinged together, whereby the several receptacles fold into small compass, a plurality of asbestos sheets received in one of the receptacles, a plurality of polishing sheets received in another receptacle, and a waxing pad received in a third receptacle, flanges on the receptacles for holding the sheets and pad in the receptacles, said receptacles having the bottoms presenting a convex surface for causing the sheets to be raised above the flanges of the receptacles.
