LAMP-BURNER, ATTACHMENT.
This invention relates to an attachment for lamp burners of the ordinary type, and has for its principal object to provide an attachment whereby the projecting end of the lamp wick will be supplied with an increased amount of oxygen, thereby increasing the size and brilliancy of the flame.
Another object of the invention is to provide an attachment of the character de scribed which is adjustable in its construction to permit of the same being readily associated with lamp burners of different sizes.
A further object of the invention is to provide an attachment of the class described, which is composed of only two parts, and is therefore simple'in construction and cheap to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings", and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of the members forming the attachment, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the other of the members forming the attachment, Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view through the attachment, the parts being shown in assembled relation, and Fig. 4 is a vertical section of a lamp burner showing the attachment applied thereto.
Like reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.

base of an ordinary lamp burner having the usual dome 6, in the upper portion of which is formed a slit 7 through which the flame from the burning wick passes. A wick tube 8 is arranged within the dome and the base of the burner in the usual manner, said tube being flat to receive a flat wick 9, The usual means are provided for raising and lowering the wick. In the base is a foraminous horizontal partition 10, through which the, wick 8 extends. The above noted construction constitutes an ordinary form of lamp burner and forms no part of the present invention.
My invention comprises an attachment for such burners and consists of two relatively adjustable members A and B formed from sheet metal. The member A is formed from a long strip and is centrally bent transversely to 4 form opposed parallel Walls 1111 and an end 12. The walls 11 at their junctures with the end 12 are cut inwardly from the bottom as indicated by the reference numerals 13-13. These cuts extend to points substantially midway between the top and bottom of said walls. bottom portion of each wall 11 is then bent outwardly longitudinally on the line 14 to form an inclined bottomflange 15, said line 14 merging with the inner end of the cut .13.
The lower portion of the end 12 is likewise bent outwardly on the line 16 to form a lower end flange 17, the line lfibeing in the same plane as the line 14. The end.12 is furthermore formed with a pair of spaced and downwardly extending incisions 1818' forming a consequent tongue 19.
The member B of the attachment is likewise formed from a long strip, and is centrally bent to form spaced parallel side walls 2020 and an end 21. The lower portions of the walls 20 are also bent longitudinally and outwardly to form lower side flanges 2222, and the lower portion of the end 21 is also bent outwardly to form a lower end flange 23. It will be observed in this connection that the member B is of a size a trifle larger than the member A, so as to admit the latter. In order to secure the member A within the member B and to permit of relative longitudinal adjustments between the members, the upper longitudinal edges of the walls 20 of the member B are inwardly bent to form longitudinal guide flanges 24-24 for receiving the upper Patented Jan. 9,1912; Application filed J'uly e, 1911. The lower or edges of the walls 11 of the member A. The 7 lower or longitudinal edges of the flanges 22 of the member B are bent under an inwardly to form guide flanges 2525 which are adapted to receive the flanges 15 of the member A. It will be observed in this connection that by reason of the flanges 24k and 25, all movements between the members are prevented with the exception of longitudinal movements. The end wall 21 is, like the end wall 12 of the member A, formed with a pair of spaced downwardly extending incisions 26 forming a consequent tongue 27.
When it is desired to secure this attachment to .a burner of the type described, the two members are first assembled and the attachment is then placed within the dome 6 of the burner, the downwardly and outwardly extending flanges of the attachment being seated upon the partition 10 of said burner. The members are then extended until the ends 12 and 21 bear against the wall of the dome. The tongues 19 and 27 are then bent over the ends of the slit 7 of the burner to securely hold the attachment in place. It will be observed in this connection that because of the tongues 19 and 27 being stamped from the ends,'the side walls 11 and 20 project upwardly beyond the bottom of the slit 7, but in spaced relation to the dome of the burner.
From the foregoing, it will be observed that in practice the flanges and the walls of the attachment cooperate to form an up draft, the air entering the dome through the partition 19 and passing upwardly through the attachment to the upper end of the wiclc What is claimed is j 1. An attachment for lamp burners con? sisting of two members connected to each other for relative longitudinal movement, said members each including side walls and an end wall and downwardly and outwardly &
projecting side flanges and an end flange, and tongues stamped from said end walls.
2. An attachment for lamp burners consisting of two members connected to each other for relative longitudinal movement, said members each including side walls and an end wall and downwardly and outwardly projecting side flanges and an end flange, and longitudinal flanges respectively extending from the upper edges of the side walls and the outeredges of the side flanges of one member for conjointly receiving the walls and side flanges of the other member.
3. An attachment for lamp burners consisting of two members connected to each other for relative longitudinal movement, one of said. members being formed from a strip of metal and centrally bent to form spaced side walls and an end wall, the lower portions of said walls of each member being respectively bent outwardly to form side and end flanges, the upper longitudinal edges of the side walls of one member being bent to form longitudinal guide flanges and the lower longitudinal edges of the outwardly projecting side flanges thereofbeing bent under and inwardly to form longitudi- .nal guide flanges, the other member being also formed from a strip of metal and bent centrally to form spaced parallel Side walls, and an end wall, the lower portions of the walls being bent to formoutwardly and downwardly projecting side and end flanges, the longitudinal Walls and the side flanges being disposed within the guide flange of the first mentioned member, and tongues stamped from the end walls of the members.
