GEORGE HENRY MAAS, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
SEAL-LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 26, 1911.
Application filed November 29, 1909. Serial No. 530,363.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE HENRY Mans, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State of lVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Seal-Locks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in that class of lock and sealing devices, for which Letters Patent of the United States, No. 878215, was issued to me on the 4th day of February, 1908, and it pertains more especially, among other things, to the improved device for sealing the cover retaining locking members, whereby the same cannot be disengaged from each other without breaking the seal, and without liability of detection.
My invention is further explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a bottom view of a locking member which is adapted to be secured to the under inner side of the cover.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the locking member which is adapted to be secured in the inner walls of the case. Fig. 3 is a vertical section, showing the two locking members secured together in connection with one corner of the case and cover, Fig. 4 is a vertical'section of one corner of a case and cover and a side view of the locking members of such parts, preparatory to bringing them into engagement with each other.
Like parts are represented by the same reference letters throughout the several views.
It will be. understood that the case 1, cover 2 provided with aperture 3, hasp 4, hasp retaining plate 5 provided with aperture 6, are formed and secured to the cover 52 substantially as shown in said patent, also the locking member, comprising the fastening plate 7, recess 8, and hasp engaging lugs 9, 9, is constructed and secured'to the inside walls of the case substantially as shown and described in said patent. It will be also understood that when the cover 2 is in place, as shown in Fig. 3, it is locked in such position by the engagement of the horizontal members 10, 10, of the hasp beneath the lower edges of the lugs 9 and that such locking members are disengaged from each other from the exterior of the case by drawing upward upon the bail 11 of the hasp, which bail is reached and operated through the aperture 3 of the cover. By the device shown in said patent, the aperture 3 is adapted to be closed by a disk shown in said patent, whereby it becomes impossible to reach and disengage the locking members without first destroying such disk. By my present improvement, however, such disk is dispensed with and the locking members are prevented from being surreptitiously disengaged by a seal 12, seal ring 13 and lugs 11 and 15. The lug 14 is secured to or formed integral with the hasp retaining plate 5, while the lug 15 is secured to or formed integral with the locking member of the case and said lugs are respectively provided with apertures 16 and 17 for the reception of the sealing ring 13. The ring 13 is preferably formed of a short piece of wire, which is first passed through the opposing apertures of the lugs, when the ends of the wire are brought and secured together by a seal 12, which seal may be made of soft metal, alloy, or any suitable material, the breaking of which will be subject to ready detection.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a device of the described class, the combination of a case, a bracket secured to the inner wall of said case, provided with a pair of hasp retaining lugs projecting inwardly from said bracket, a cover provided with an aperture above said bracket, a hasp retaining plate provided with an aperture registering with the aperture of said cover, a hasp pivotally secured to said plate at one side of said aperture, said hasp being adapted to engage said pair of hasp retaining lugs beneath the cover, and thereby secure said cover and case together, a pair of separate sealing lugs, one connected with the plate on said cover, and the other connected with said bracket, and both located within said case and cover, adapted to receive a sealing wire.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE HENRY MAAS.
