To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, PAUL Gr. FORSBERG and AxEL C. FoRsBERG, citizens of the United States and Sweden, and residents of Torrington, Litchfield county, State of Connecticut, and the borough of Manhattan, county and State of New York, respectively, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in hangers for hats and other articles of wearing apparel, andits objects are: to provide an efiicient device, at once light and inexpensive, for the purpose of temporarily hanging hats, caps, coats or other garments of personal wear to any convenient support, or readily accessible small projection, either within a building or out of doors; to so arrange the device that it may be readily and permanently attached to such articles of wearing apparel and when so attached to be inconspicuous, except during the time it is actually employed in supporting the garment to which it is connected, and which in no way interferes with the comfort and pleasure of the wearer.

The invention consists in certain novel features hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the drawings hereto annexed, in which similar reference characters relate to similar'parts.

In these drawings: Figure 1, is a front view of the hanger in a folded position, a portion of a .hat being shown by dash-anddot lines. Fig. 2, is an inverted front view of Fig. 1, with the flap in an open position. Fig. 3, is an enlarged fragmentary detail plan view of a clasp button. Fig. 4, is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5, is a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3. Fig. 6, is an enlarged fragmentary detail plan view of a bridged clasp. Fig. 7, is a section on the line 7-7 of Fig. 6, and Fig. 8 is a side view of Fig. 1, partially in section.

The invention comprises a flap 10 of thin, flexible, having attached at one end a snap button .11, the basal flange of which is provided with two sets of sharp prongs, each set being of unequal length, the shorter set 12 clasping only the flap 10 while the longer set 13 is adapted to extend beyond the flap and be inserted through the sweat band of a hat, or suitable portion of other garments, and

clasped securely thereto. Near the other end of the flap 10, is carried a socket 14 adapted to coact with the button 11 when the said flap is folded over upon itself on its median line; the shank of said socket 14 pivotally carries a thin metallic hook 15; said hook being provided with a sharply pointed end 16' extending beyond the center of the curved portion 17 and well adapted to rest upon the flat surface of any convenient support, as a shelf, table or the like, while the curved portion rests naturally on a nail, pin or bough of a tree. Washers 19 and 20 are disposed at the sides of the hook 15 to keep it from wearing unduly on the flap and the outer end of the socket 14 is upset so' as to hold the hook and washers from coming off. The flap 10, which may be attached near the inside edge of the sweat-band, is provided with an extension or ear 21 constituting a convenient finger grip by means of which the socket 14 may be pulled away from the afiixed snap button 11. The portion of the flap adjacent to the sweat-band has an additional bridged clasping member 22 provided with relatively short prongs 23 at its sides to be clasped to the flap and at its ends with longer prongs 24 which are adapted to pass through the garment material and be clasped thereto, thus cooperating with the 'clasps of the button 11 in carrying the weight of the garment when it is suspended, as well as to resist the strain of pulling the socket 14 away from the button 11, when it is desired to use the hanger.

In operationthe hanger is attached to the garment as herein indicated, by means of the longer sets of prongs 13 and 24, extending respectively from the snap button 11 and bridge clasp 22; the hook 15 is turned inwardly so as to be covered by the loose portion of the flap and the socket 14 placed in engagement with the snap button 11.

When it is desired to make use of the hanger, in temporarily disposing of a garment, the extension 21 is grasped and pulled away from the fixed portion of the flap thereby disengaging the socket from the button and causing the hook 15 to become accessible; said hook is then turned on its pivotal mount outwardly and disposed upon any available support.

While the foregoing describes the general characteristics of the invention, it is understood that modifications in the shape indicated and details of construction may be made without departing from the scope of said flap in a folded position and an attachment hook pivotally connected with, and in a plane parallel to said flap.

2. A device of the class described, comprising a flexible flap adapted to be attached at one of its ends to a garment and having two independent securing means therefor, an attachment hook pivotally connected near the opposite end of said flap, means for detachably holding said flap in a folded position, whereby said hook is concealed and a disengaging means therefor.

3. A device of the class described, comprising a flexible flap, a snap-button set at one end thereof, means combined with the snap-button for securing said flap to a garment, independent supplementary means for securing said flap to the garment, a socket adapted to coact with said snap-button, set at the opposite end of said flap and ahook pivotally attached, to said socket.

A device of the class described, comprising a flexible flap, a snap-button set at one end of said flap, said snap-button having a series of alternate long and short prongs, the shorter of which are adapted only to be clasped to the flap and the longer to pass through and be clasped to the garment material, a supplementary securing member having similarly formed alternate long and short prongs, a socket disposed at the opposite end of said flap, coacting with said snap-button, means for disengaging said socket from said snap-button and a supporting hook provided with a prolonged sharp extending point, pivot-ally mounted on said socket in such manner as to be concealed When said flap is in a folded position.

5. A device of the class described, comprising a thin flexible flap, a snap-button set at one end thereof said snap-button having a plurality of prongs of varying lengths,

theshorter of which are adapted to engage only with said flap and the longer to be clasped to the supported garment, a supplementary bridge member having short prongs on its-sides adapted to engage with the flap only and relatively longer prongs at its ends adapted to-clasped to the supported garment, a'snap-socket coacting with said snap-button disposed at the opposite end of said flap, a thin hook pivotally disposed on the shank of said snap-socket and friction washers disposed at either side of said hook.
