FILM-DEVELOPING- TANK.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT E. SEELEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Greene and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Film-Developing Tanks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in developing tanks for films.
One object of the invention is to provide a developing tank in which a number of films may be readily developed at one time, with the use of a comparatively small amount of developer and in which a single film may be developed without curling.
Another object is to provide a developing tank having means whereby the same may be covered or closed during development and when not in use thus protecting the devel oping solution from exposure and preventing the rapid oxidizing of the same.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrange ment of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved tank; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same with the cover removed; Fig. 3 is a central vertical cross sectional view thereof.
My improved developing tank comprises a receptacle 1 which is preferably of cylindrical form and of any suitable diameter and depth and formed of any suitable material. In the receptacle 1 and arranged, one within the other, are a series of cylindrical partitions 2 of which there may be any desired number, three of the same being shown in the present instance.
The partitions 2 decrease in diameter from the outer side toward the center of the receptacle and form between themselves and the outer side a series of annular concentric developing spaces or compartments 3 adapted to contain the developing solution and to receive the films to be developed. vide a cover 4 which is adapted to fit over and closely engage the upper edge of the tank as shown.
In using the tank the strip of films is placed on edge in one of the compartments or spaces 3. The larger compartments are employed for long films and the smaller compartments for short films. When thus placed in the compartments the films will coil around the partitions. By wetting the backs of two films at their opposite ends and placing the backs together the films will adhere and when so attached both films may be placed in one compartment of the tank and thus developed together or at the same time. When single or cut films are to be developed they are supported in the compartments and prevented from curling by placing the backs of the same against the partitions and fastening the edges of the films by any suitable form of clips or fastening devices.
The use of pyro developer, which is conceded to be the best is practically prohibited in connection with most developing tanks now in use because of the large quantity of such developer required in these tanks and the fact that this developer will not keep for any length of time but must be made up fresh each day and in such quantities that the expense is very great. By means of my improved developing tank a comparatively small amount of developer is required for completely covering the films and furthermore the cover provided with my tank whereby the same may be closed while in use and at other times prevents the rapid oxidizing of the pyro developer.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the inven tion will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is A film developing device comprising a cylindrical tank, a series of cylindrical concentrically disposed vertical partitions of different diameters and of uniform height arranged on edge within said tank to form ner face of said cover resting on the upper edges of said partitions and tank thereby completely closing each compartment.
