Be it known that I, CARL C. Knsrnnnn, a
:' citizen of the United States of America, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent. and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hood-Fasteners for Automobiles; and- I do hereby declare the following to be a full, cigar, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use thesame.
My invention relates to improvements in fasteners and more particularly to hood fasteners for automobiles and its object is to J provide the same with means for adjusting the tension of the spring, to provide means for preventing the device from rattling, to
provide a. fastener that is readily detachable and to provide the same with various new and useful features hereinafter more fully ointed out in the claims, reference being ad to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a device embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is an elevation at right angles to Fig. '1; Fig. 3 an enlarged detail of the device partially in of the-figures.

The upper end of the rod is bent in a circular form 7 which engages a pair of hooks 8 secured to the Specification of Letters Patent.

A ring 9 preferably of rubber or other elastic material, surrounds the case l0 and laterally engages the hood to prevent any rattling of the parts of the device. By manually raising the ring 7 clear of the hooks the device may be'swung outward as indicated in broken lines in Fig. 1 and the hood thus released and in the event it is desirable the case and parts attached may readily be separated from the anchor plate as occasion may require.
Obviously the use of this fasteneris not limited to the hoods of automobiles but it may be used variously, ,to detachably secure any two members to each other and yieldingly press themtogether.
\Vhat I claim is "1. A fastener, comprising a spring case, a shank adjustable in the case, means for pivotally attaching the shank, a spring in the case, a rod engaged by the spring and projectingvoutside the case, and means for detacdhably securing the projecting end of the ro 2. A fastener, comprising a spring case, a shank adjustable in the case, means for preventing removal of the shank from the case, means for pivotally attaching the shank, a spring in the case, a rod engaged by the spring and projecting outside ofthe case, and means for detachably securing the projecting end of the rod.
3. A fastener, comprising a tubular spring case, ashank projecting from one end of the case and adjustable therein, an anchor plate pivotally connected to the shank, a rod longitudinally movable in the case and projecting therefrom, a spring surrounding the rod connected to the rod at one end and engaging the end of the case at the other end, and means for detachably securing the projecting end of the rod.
4. A fastener, comprising an anchor plate having a transverse slot and raised portions at each side of the slot, a shank having a T-head to enter the slot and engage the under side of the raised portions, a tubular the inwardly turned end-thereof at one end,

A fastener, comprising an anchor plate having a transverse slot and raised portions at each side of the slot, a shank having a -T- head at one end to enter the slot and engage said portions and screw threaded at the other end, a tubular sprin case screw threaded at one end tq receive the screw threaded end of the shank and inwardly turned at the other end, a spring in the case engaging one end, a rod in the case, having a head engaging the other end of the spring-and projecting through the in dinally movable in the case and projecting therefrom opposite to the shank, a ring on the outer end of the rod, a pair of hooks to embrace the rod and engage the ring, a
spring in the case to yieldingly pull the rod into the case and an elastic band surround-- ing the case.
8. A fastener, comprising a tubular spring case screw threaded atone end, a screw 'threaded shank inserted in said end, said end also being spuninward to prevent removal of the shank, an anchor plate pivotally attached to the shank, a spring in the case, a rod movable in the case and drawn into the case by'the spring, a ring on the end of'the rod, and hooks to embrace the rod and engage the ring.
