WILLIAM S. HARPSTm, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
COMMUNION-SERVICE DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. HAnrsTnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Communion- Service Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide improved means for filling the glasses used in individual communion service.
The invention is embodied in the features shown in the accompanyin drawings, set forth in the following description and then pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing-Figure 1 is a top plan view of the filling device with a portion in section. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the line a2ac Fig. 2.
The tank or reservoir 'for containing the wine supply consists of a tubular body having a roundrear wall 6 and a front fiat wall 7 the tubular body being closed at both ends, one of such ends being closed with a large removable threaded cap 8 so that the wine can be conveniently supplied to the reservoir or the device cleaned. The tank is also provided with an air vent closed by a small valve at 9. The lower forward corner of the reservoir is provided with a'suitable number of small dischar e nozzles 10..
These nozzles 10 are closed y valves 11 arranged preferably to include groups of three, each group being provided with a single upwardly curved operating arm' 12 pivoted to ears, as seen at 13 at the lower side of the reservoir. The valve devices or bodiesll are formed with seats for soft packings 14 to close on the nozzle and with spout extensions 15 extending beyond the lower edge of the flat wall 7 so that the discharge of the spouts can be conveniently Specification oi Letters Patent.

observed from above by one holding the tank or reservoir in his hands. In addition to the two groups of three nozzles and valves therefor as shown I provide a single independently operated valve for a single nozzle as seen at the right hand side of Figs. 1 and 2. The advantage of this single independently controlled nozzle is that it can be used to supply such glasses as may not have been sufficiently supplied by one or more of the nozzles in a group. Each of the valve devices can be held up in closed position by a spring or springs like that indicated at 16. In practice the tank is held at its ends and in both hands, the thumbs being used to manipulate the upwardly extending lever arms of the valves. \Vhi-le so manipulating the valves the operator can successfully watch the flow of wine and control it and shut it off at the proper instant.
What I claim is:
1. In a filling device of the kind described, a tank or reservoir having a flat front face, nozzles in the tank near the lower edge of said face, valve devices for opening and closing said nozzles, said valve devices having spout extensions projecting beyond the aforesaid front face of the tank for conducting the liquid, substantially as described.
2. In a filling device of the kind described, a tank or reservoir having a fiat front face, nozzles in the tank near the'lower edge of said face, and valve devices inindependently operative groups for opening and closing said nozzles, said valve devices having spout extensions projecting beyond the aforesaid front face of the tank for conducting the liquid, substantially as described.
