Temporary Bindersgland I dohereby delclare that the following is a full andexact description thereof, reference being had t the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to that class of binders in which one of the binder covers is attached to the binder posts and the other binder covenyis perforated and adapted to slide uponthe binder posts and to be locked thereto by afriction lock.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of my binder. Fig. 2 is a detail Aof the thumb screw used to operate the lock thereof. Fi 3 is a sectional elevation showing the loc in parts of my invention in a locked position. Fig. 4 1s a plan view of the upper or locking binder bar showing my locking mechanism in detail. This enables the block d to have a slight lateral movement within the bar a for the purpose above named.
In operation the lock is shown in Fig. 5 in its unlocked or released position, the screw D being turned to the point of moving the block el below and out of locking contact with the plates a a. `The spring a5 in this position 'draws the plates a a away from contact with the posts C C. By a revolution of the,
screw D driving it within the block d, the block cl is drawn up between the plates a a and in contact therewith, thereby driving the said plates laterally into contact and locking engagement with the posts C C. This locked position is shown at'Fig. 3.
What I claim as my invention is 1. The combination in a temporary binder of the class described, with binder posts and a movablecover suitably perforated to slide upon said posts, of a lock consisting of a tubular bar attached to said movable 'over, longitudinally movable plates lying fviiithin said bar, the inner ends of said plates ilitted with beveled faces, and a block beveled to correspond with said beveled faces and adapt-ed to force said plates longitudinally in said bar into engagement with thel said binder posts, and means adapted to permit lat-eralplay of said block.
2. The combination in a temporary binder tudinally into contact With the said binder posts, a stem attached to said block and passing through a perforation in said bar, a conven collar attached to said stein having bearing in a concave recess upon the outer face of the said tubular bar, whereby said block is permitted lateral play Within said bar.
The combination in a temporary binder of the class described, With binder posts and a movable cover suitably perforated to slide upon said posts, of a lock consisting of a tubular bar attached to said movable cover, plates lying Within said bar and adapted to laterally engage said binder posts, beveled faces fitted upon the inner ends of said plates, a beveled block lying in contact with the said beveled faces, a screw engaging said beveled block, a convex collar fitted upon said screw and a concave seat fitted on the outer face of said bar and adapted to engage said convex collar.
