CH'UBN-IDASHER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 20, 1910.
Patented Dec. 12, 1911.
Serial No. 598,450.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, LESTER O. CARTWRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Sangamon and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Churn-Dasher, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to dashers for churns of the class employing rotating dashers.
The purposes of the invention are: to provide a dasher of improved construction; and to provide means to facilitate the attaching and detaching of the dasher.
The invention is illustrated in the annexed drawing to which reference is hereby made.
The novel features of construction will now be described and finally recited in the claim.
The fixed standard 5 has in its lower part a vertical bore 5 adapted to accommodate the hub 6 of the gear-wheel 6. The gear 6 meshes with and is driven by the gear 8 and has an elongated hub 6 adapted to turn in the vertical bore 5 of the standard 5. The hub 6 has a central hole 6* which is circular in its lower part and tapering and square in its upper part.
The dasher 15 is a worm-shape metal bar of suitable dimensions having at its lower end an integral relatively broad blade 15 and having near its upper end a tapering square part l5 fitting in the square part of the hole 6 a tapering cylindrical part 15 adapted to turn in the cylindrical part of the hole 6 and a screw threaded part 15 on which a thumb nut 16 fits. Upon screwing down the thumb nut 16 the parts will be firmly connected so that the dasher will rotate with the gear 6; and upon loosening the nut the dasher may be detached from the gear. This construction gives the parts a firm connection. The parts are of such form that they may be easily cleaned and may be easily detached for storage or transportation. For sanitary reasons, the form of the parts and the convenience of attachment or detachment of the parts for cleaning is of prime importance.
A feature of special merit is that the relatively wide blade 15 serves to thoroughly agitate the cream in the lower part of the churn and thereby maintain constant flow of the cream and greatly facilitate aeration thereof.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A spiral dasher having at its lower end a relatively wide blade and having at its upper end a tapering polygonal part for connecting with the dasher a gear for rotating the dasher and a screw-threaded part adapted to receive a nut for securing the gear on the dasher.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name at Springfield, Illinois this 14th day of November 1910.
LESTER O. CARTWRIGI-IT.
