W. T. W. IDRIS & R. H. GRIFFITH. HEAD OF SIPHONS FOR AERATED LIQUIDS. APPLIOATION FILED JULY 20, 1911.
COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPH (10-. WASfllNaToN. D. c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM TREVENA WILLIAMS IDRIS, 0F CAMDEN TOWN, AND RICHARD HOOSON GRIFFITH, OF PALMER/S GREEN, ENGLAND, ASSIGNORS TO IDRIS & CO. LIMITED,
OF CAMDEN TOWN, ENGLAND.
HEAD OF SIPHONS FOR AE-RATED LIQUIDS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM TREVENA WILLIAMS Imus, residing at 244 Camden road, Camden Town, in the county of London, England, and RICHARD HoosoN GRIF- FITH, residing at 1 Derwent road, Aldermans Hill, Palmers Green, in the county of Middlesex, England, subjects of the King of Great Britain, have invented new and useful Improvements in the Heads of Siphons for Aerated Liquids, of which the following is a specification.
Many siphon heads are now provided with a valve consisting of a flexible disk the outer edge of which is held in contact with the earthenware block by a ring which is forced down by the outer screw cap. It is found that the cap when being screwed on sometimes causes the disk to be rubbed and dis: placed.
According to the present invention the cap does not bear on the ring so that it can be screwed home without putting any pressure on the disk and other means are provided for forcing the ring down after the cap has been screwed home. This is preferably effected by making the ring in one piece with the tube which forms the guide for the plunger and providing means for forcing this tube down relatively to the cap. For this purpose the tube may be carried out through the top of the cap and be forced down by a second cap screwing onto or into the top of the ordinary cap.
The accompanying drawing shows a siphon head made in accordance with this invention.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 20, 1911.
Patented Dec. 12, 1911.
Serial No. 639,636.
a is the earthenware block inclosed in a metal case 12 onto which screws the cap 0.
d is the valve disk provided With a plunger 6 with which engages the handle or trigger f. The edge of the disk (1 is pressed down onto the block a by a ring 9 made in one with the tube h which forms the guide for the plunger 6 and contains the spring 2'. The tube It is forced down by a second cap 9' screwing onto the main cap 0.
In closing the siphon, the cap j is loosened or removed from the cap 0 which can therefore be screwed home onto the case b without putting pressure on the disk since the cap does not bear on the ring 9; the disk is then forced down onto the block by screwing the cap on to the cap 0.
What we claim is 1. In a siphon head the combination with a cap and a disk valve of a ring within the cap and bearing on the valve a tube in one with the ring and means for forcing the tube downward within the cap.
2. In a siphon head the combination with a cap and a disk valve of a ring within the cap and bearing on the valve a tube in one with the ring and a second cap screwing on to the first and adapted to force the tube downward within the cap.
