The object of the invention is to provide a roll of paper having one or both sides thereof stamped, printed or otherwise provided, at predetermined or uneven intervals, with a designating color, which colored portions represent premium checks or tlckets,
and entitles the lucky holder or holders thereof to a prize or rebate, thus making it necessary for every sale to be rung up on the register at the timeof sale, underthe observation of the purchaser, and insuring the owner against dishonest clerks.
A further object is to provide a paper roll comprising a continuous series of checks or tickets, the opposite ends of the premium checks or tickets being of the same color as the ordinary purchase tickets so as to prevent the colored portions of the premium.

For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction I and the means for effecting the result, refer once is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cash register provided with a paper roll constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view of a portion of the strip of paper detached from the roll; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the paper roll showing the same in position on the hollow core or hub. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the premium tickets detached from the roll, One end of the ticket being curled up so as to expose the lower face thereof.
Corresponding and like partsare referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The paper roll forming the subject matter of the present invention is shown, by way of illustration, in connection with the recording mechanism 3 of a cash register 4 of the ordinary construction, said roll comprising a core or hub 5 adapted to fit the spindle of the recording mechanism and upon which is wound a continuous strip of paper or other suitable material, indicated at 6. One face of the strip 6 is divided by transverse weakened portions or perforations 7 to form a plurality of permanently connected checks or tickets 8, which latter are adapted to be severed on the lines 7 when the recording mechanism of the cash register is actuated, thereby to eject a single check or ticket at the discharge chute so that the purchaser by glancing at the ticket will know the exact amount of his purchase. Some of the checks or tickets 8 are stamped, printed or otherwise provided with a designated color to in dicate prize or premium tickets 9, which when drawn by a purchaser entitles the latter to a rebate. The ordinary purchase tickets 8 are preferably formed of white paper, while the prize or premium tickets will be of a distinctive color such as red, green, orange, or any other desired color Which will present a striking contrast to the white surface of the ordinary purchase tickets. The premium or prize tickets 9 will be arranged at predetermined and uneven intervals in the length of the paper roll so as to prevent the attendant or operator of the cash register from locating the same and thus imparting the information so acquired to his friends with a view to imposing upon other purchasers. The opposite ends of each prize or premium ticket are provided with a marginal edge 10 of the same color as the adjacent ordinary purchase ticket which marginal edge also serves to prevent the colored body portion of the premium ticket from being exposed at the ticket chute after a predetermined number of purchases have been recorded and consequently prevents a prospective purchaser from locating the prize or premium ticket and making a small purchase with the sole object in view of drawing the prize.
The tickets 8 and-9 may be numbered consecutively so that the proprietor may keep a record of the number of purchases made during the day. If desired however, the numbers may be omitted and the weakened portions or perforations 7 dispensed with without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The paper roll is principally designed for use on registers where clerks are hired and especially useful by proprietors of saloons, cigar stores and similar places whereit is a custom for the proprietor to treat his customers at stated intervals in order to insure their patronage. It is a very hard matter for the proprietors of saloons and similar places to discriminate among the customers and very often neglect on the part of the proprietor to fulfil such duties often results in a loss of trade and damage to his business. To remedy this defect, it is proposed to place such a value upon each prize or premium ticket as will entitle the lucky holder thereof to a treat and thus obviate the necessity of the proprietor of the saloon repeatedly setting them up. The foregoing arrangement of tickets also prevents the clerk or other operator of a cash register from fraudulently failing toregister the proper amount of each purchase, inasmuch as the purchasers will invariably watch for the prize or premium ticket and thus keep the movements of the clerk under constant surveillance.
If desired, one or both surfaces of the premium or prize tickets may have suitable advertising matter printed thereon.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A paper roll comprising a continuous strip of material divided by spaced transverse lines to form a plurality of sections having indicia printed thereon and constituting tickets, sundry of which are of a color contrasting to the others, the tickets of one color being arranged at predetermined and uneven intervals in the length of the strip and having their end portions of the same color as the adjacent tickets, the colored portions of all of the tickets of one color extending to the opposite longitudinal edges thereof.
2. A paper roll comprising a continuous strip of material divided by spaced transverse lines to form a plurality of sections having indicia printed thereon and constituting tickets, sundry of which are of a color contrasting to the others, the tickets of one color being arranged at predetermined and uneven intervals in the length of the strip and having their end portions of the same color as the adjacent tickets, the colored portions of all of the tickets of one color extending to the opposite longitudinal edges thereof, and having printed thereon a legend indicating the cash value thereof.
3. A paper roll comprising a single strip of material divided by transverse lines to form a plurality of sections having indicia printed thereon and constituting tickets, sundry of which are of a color contrasting to the others, the tickets of one color being disposed at predetermined intervals in the length of the strip and the colored portions of such tickets at the unwinding ends thereof terminating short of the adjacent dividing line, and the unwinding end of each of such tickets being of the same color as the ticket immediately beyond said line, the
colored portion of all of the tickets on one color extending to the opposite longitudinal edges thereof.
4. A paper roll comprising a single strip of material divided by transverse lines to form a plurality of sections having indicia printed thereon and constituting tickets, sundry of which are of a color contrasting to the others, the tickets of one color being disposed at predetermined and uneven intervals in the length of the strip and the colored portions of such tickets at the unwinding ends thereof terminating short of the adjacent dividing line. the unwinding end of each of such tickets being of the same color as the ticket immediately beyond said line, certain of said colored tickets having advertising matter printed on one face thereof and the colored portions of said tickets extending to the opposite longitudinal edges thereof and having printed thereon a legend indicating the cash value of said tickets.
