To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY DARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Massaging Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in massaging apparatus, the object of the invention being to provide improved means in which a suction through the massaging apparatus is had by reason of hydraulic induction, creating a partial vacuum, and inducing a passage of air through the apparatus.
A further object is to provide an improved apparatus of this character which is adapted to be attached to any orolinary spigot, and which will effectually operate when the water is turned on, the ordinary city pressures being sufiicient to accomplish the desired results.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
The accompanying drawing is a view partly in section and partly in elevation, illustrating my improvements.
1, represents a metal casing which is enlarged at its upper end as shown at 2, and provided with an inwardly projecting flange 3, against which a gasket 1 is seated. This gasket 4 has a cylindrical opening 5 to snugly fit the end of a spigot 6 illustrated in dotted lines. The gasket 41 is made conical externally, so that the water from the spigot will pass around against the outside of the gasket, and eXert pressure on the gasket to hold it in tight engagement with the spigot. The lower end of casing 1 is contracted, snugly fits, and is secured to, a tube 7. In the casing 1, and around the upper end of tube 7 a block 8 is molded. This block 8 is of cement or any other suitable material, and is provided with a vertical passage 9, connecting the inlet end of the casing with the tube 7, and said block 8 is also provided with a curved passage 10, which communicates with a nipple 11 at one side of the casing, and this passage 10 connects said nipple with said tube 7 Tube 7 is adapted to fit within a tube 12, which is secured in an Specification of Letters Patent.

enlarged head 13 by solder 17 said tubes 7 and 12 extending down into the head 13 as shown, and said head 13 perforated throughout its lower face as shown at 14. Nipple 11 above referred to, is connected by a hose 15 of any desired length, with a suction cup 16, which is adapted to be used in massaging, as is well understood.
In operation, the passage of the water from spigot 6 through casing 1, passage 8, tube 7, and then partially filling the head and discharging in an extended surface, induces a suction of air through cup 16, hose 15, and passage 10, said air being pulled down with the water, and discharged with the water.
It is possible to reverse the parts. and place the cup 16 on the spigot 6, when the head 13 may be used for ordinary shower bath purposes, but the essential of this case is the use which is above described.
The drawing illustrates the parts in one position of adjustment, but to increase the suction, it is simply necessary to move the head 13 downwardly, which causes the tube 12 to telescope on the tube 7, lengthening the passage formed by these two tubes, and this lengthening of the passage within certain limits, increases the suction through the hose 15.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a massaging apparatus, the combination of a casing, an outlet tube at the lower end of the casing, a block molded in said casing and having two passages therethrough, one for water and the other for air, both of which communicate with said tube, a nipple on one side of said casing communicating with said air passage, and a flexible hose connected to said nipple, substantially as described.
2. In a massaging apparatus, the combination of a casing, an outlet tube at the lower end of the casing, a block molded in said casing and having two passages therethrough, one for Water and the other for air, both of which communicate with said tube, a nlpple on one side of sa1d casmg communlcatlng wlth said alr passage, a flexlble hose connected to said nipple, said casing havlng an lnwardly pro ect1ng flange at its upper end, and a spigot engaging gasket 1n the upper end of said casing below said flange, said gasket made conical externally, substantially as described.
3. In a massaging apparatus, the combination with a casing, and a tube fixed in the lower end of the casing, of a block molded in said casing. and having a water and an air passage therethrough communicating with said tube, means for holding said casing on a spigot, a flexible hose communicating with said air passage, and an enlarged outlet head ofappreciably. greater diameter than the tube, and supported on the end of said tube, substantially as described.
4. In a massaging apparatus, the combination with a casing, and a tube fixed in the lower end of the casing, of a block molded in saidcasing andhaving a water and an air passage therethrough communicating with said tube, means for holding said casing on a spigot,wa flexible hose communicating with said air passage, an enlarged outlet head of appreciably greater diameter than the tube, having a flat perforated discharge surface,

5. In a massaging apparatus, the combination with a casing adapted to be connected with a source of water supply, and an air suction device connected with said casing, an enlarged outlet head of greaten diameter than the casing, a tube fixed'inthe head,,and a tube-secured to the casing andtelescoping in the tube of the head, whereby said tubes may be moved relative to each other to lengthen or shorten the passage through them, substantially as described.
