To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, lVALuEu S. ADAMS, a citizen of the United States,'residing at Parkersburg, in the county of \Vood and State of Vest Virginia. have invented a new and useful MinersLamp Holder, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to improvements in miners lamp holders, and the primary object of the invention is the provision of a holder adapted to be attached to a miners cap provided with a lower spring clamping means for engaging the lower portion or base of the lamp and with an elonated slot tlirou h which the hook of the amp is adapt to be projected and be locked in an immovable position by means of a cam plate pivotally connected to the rear face of the support.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a holder the main plate of v which is made from a single piece of metal with reinforced edges, and bent to form an an lar lamp support having a spring clip an a coacting shouldered portion adapted to engage the base of the lamp to hold the same toward the holder a-portion of t: e holder adjacent the lamp holder being provided with a central elongated slot, the supporting lam hook being disposed within the elongateslot and held therein by means of a pivoted cam plate disposed above the rear of the plate thus providing with the spring clip a means for firmly gripping the lamp at its bottom or base and for clamping its supporting hook removably in position.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can .be made withinthe scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit vof the invention. designates the central portion of the holder which is made preferably of a strip of sheet metal having its upper end 2 bent at an angle thereto and provided with a series of eyelets 3 for engagement with the usual prongs of a miners cap. The lower end 4- of the plate is bent outwardly to inc-line downwardly and out of parallel with the terminal 2. Secured to the forward portion of the plate, its lower end 4 and also to the central portion 1 intermediate of the sides thereof, is a reinforcing plate 5 having the tapered upper end 6 and the horizontally disposed shoulder 7. The purpose of this plate 5 will presently appear. Provided in the body of the plate 1 above the upper end of the reinforcing plate 5, is the, hook receiving elongated slot 8. and mounted in the reinforcing edges of the end 4 of the holder are the terminals 9 of the spring clamp 10, said clamp being provided with the two coils 11 which give to the bail portion of the clamp 9 tendency toward the plate 1 the lamp L being held by the bail portion of said clamp engaging the from. portion below the spent as at 12 and the base or rim as 'at 13 is adapted to abut the shoulder 7 and thereby hold the lamp at us base in the position as shown in Fig. 1.

The supporting or depending hook 14 of the lamp has its terminal projected through the elongated slot 8 when the lamp is in the position as shown in Fig. 1, and in order to lock said terminal within said slot and thereby hold the lamp in the proper position, a locking device 16 which is pivoted at 15 upon the rear of the plate 1, is provided. This device consists of a cam plate having a handle 17. and the cam ed e 18, which when the parts are in the position as shown {in Fig. 3 abuts the under side of the hook 14 and holds it upwardly within the elongated slot 8 and against the upper wall thereof, and when it is desired to release the hook from such position, the handle 17 of the cam lock is moved to the right as viewed in Fig. 3 until the inwardly curved portion 19 is ad-. jacent the book 14 and slot 8 at which time the lamp may be tilted forwardly and the hook 14 .removed from the slot 8, the same action releasing the lower portion of the lamp from the gripping action of the spring clamp 10. If it is still desired, the cam lock' may he moved to the position as shown in dotted lines, thus permitting the hook 14 to be readily removed as the full length of the slot 8 is exposed. This, however, is not necessary for as above stated when the portion 19-of the cam is below the hook portion 14, the same may be withdrawn.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, it is evident that by providing a lamp holder as herein set forth, that the lamp is not only gri pod and held at the bottom by means ov the spring clamp 10 and the shoulder 7 and with the usual hook terminal 14, but is locked in the slot 8 so that the relative position of the lamp to the holderis assured at all times and thereby decreases the possibility of the lamp bein accidentally knocked out of the holder or t e parts loosening and permitting the same to fall out.

What is claimed is:-

I. The combination with a miners lamp having a hook'support, of a holder for the lamp com rising a late having oppositely bent termiiials, the intermediate portion of the plate being provided with an elongated slot, a spring clamp for engaging the base of the lamp to hold the same toward the intermediate plate of the holder, the hook of the lamp being projected through the elongated slot therein, and a cam lock disposed upon the rear of the intermediate late for engaging the hook of the lamp wlule in the elongated slot.

2. The combination with a miners lamp having a hook support, of a holder for the lamp comprising: a plate having oppositely bent term als, the intern xdiate portion of the plate iing provided with an elongated slot, 2. sp; .ig clamp for engaging the base of the lame to hold the same Inward the intermediate plate of the holder, the hook of the i lamp being projected through the elongated slot therein, a cam' plate pivoted upon the rear face of the intermediate plate of the holder, and a handle for operating the same to place it into and out of engagement with tile hook of the lamp when in the elongated s 0t.

3. AL lam holder, having a plate with two oppositely ent terminals, means for connecting one of said terminals to a .miners cap, a spring clamp connected to the other terminal and pro ecting upwardly therefrom, a projection carried upon the intermediate portion of the plate disposed to enact with said clamp to engage the base of the clamp, the intermediate portion of the plate being provided with an elongated slot there through for the reception of a lamp hook, and a cam locking plate pivoted upon the inner face of the intermediate portion of the plate for engaging the lamp hook when disposed through said elongated slot for lockin the said hook in said slot.
