can easily be set up and taken apart, and
which when set up, forms a perfect mold for the lower or main portion of the burial case or vault and the cover for the same, and the invention consists in the construc tion and arrangement of the parts, as shown in this specification and the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the outer and inner parts of the molds as set up for the lower portion of the case. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the outer portion of the mold for the cover or lid of the case; and 'Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the inner portion of the cover mold. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the mold for the lower portion of the case at line X X in Fig. 5, with the cement filling to form said lower portion of the case. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the set up molds for the lower portion of the case. Fig. 6 is a top plan view of the set up molds for the lid of the case. Fig. 7 is a crosswise sectional view of the mold for the lid of the case at line Y Y in Fig. 6, with the cement filling to form said lid or cover therein.

The numeral 10 indicates the flat sheet metal platen upon which the different parts of the mold are set up and which forms the flat bottom for the lower or main portion 11 of the burial case or vault. The numeral 12 indicates the side pieces of the outer portion of said lower mold, and the numeral 18 indicates the end pieces of the outer portion of said mold. The parts 12 and 13 are provided with flanges 14 arid 15 on their upper and lower edges so that they may be placed interchangeably upon either edge when so desired, the outer faces of the flanges 14 and 15 being made flat and square cornered so as to fit perfectly against the platen 10, the upper flange also forming a convenient table for pushing the cement over between the parts of the mold. The end parts 13 are formed with similar top and bottom flanges 14 and 15. These flanges cause the parts to stand in place until clamped in position.
It is apparent that the oints between parts 12 and 18 must be smooth on their inner surface, accordingly, the contiguous edges are made to fit perfectly upon one another and are each turned outwardly in the square cornered flanges 16 which extend from the top to the bottom of the parts 12 and 13. The flanges 16 are held closely together and firmly in position by means of the screw clamps 17, usually two screw clamps being used for each of the pairs of flanges 16. The clamps 17 draw the joints closely to gether and yet hold them so that they can be instantly released when the cement has set suflicient-ly to allow of the removal of the outer mold parts. The outer parts 12 and 18 are preferably made with the four joints therebetween though a greater or less number of joints might be used without departing from my invention.
The inner portion of the mold is made with a smooth exterior when set up, and is composed of the side pieces 18 and end pieces 19 which side and end pieces have the topand bottom flanges 20 and 21, corresponding to the top and bottom flanges 14 and 15 of the outer portion of the mold. The joints between the side pieces 18 and end pieces 19 are formed in the same manner as between the outer portions of the mold except that the square cornered flanges 22 are inturned. They are held by means of screw clamps 17 in the same manner as the outer portions of the mold.
In order to hold the sheet metal side plates 12 and 18 at a spaced distance from one another so that the sheet metal can not get out of line, a series of crosswise bolts 23 are provided between the two which hold the sheet metal from bending'outwardly and thus buckling out of line when the cement is being tamped in between the two parts of the mold.
The mold for the top or cover is composed of the inner part 24 and the outer part 25. The inner part 24 is made with inturned flanges 25, as shown in Fig. 7, and a removable cross bar or bars 34 is provided within the inner portion 24 to hold the same in line when the cement is pressed upon the same. The outer portion 26 is preferably made in two parts 26 and are preferably joined by means of suitable flanges 27 at each end and screw clamps 17. The parts 26 have the outwardly turned flanges 28 around the base which aid in holding it firmly in position upon the platen. The lower edge is turned inwardly as at 29 and curved so as to form an outer rounded flanged edge or bead 30 for the lower edge of the cement lid or cover 31. A corresponding groove 32 is provided on the upper edge of the lower portion 11 of the cement case to receive bead 30, which groove 32 is made by means of a suitable shaped tool so that when the two parts are fitted together the moisture will run off the cover 24 and down the outer side but can not enter the case.
In making a cement case with the mold, the outer parts 12 and 13 for the lower portion'are set up on the platen 10 and the cement bottom for the vault 11 is placed within the same. The inner parts 18 and 19 of the mold are then placed upon the cement already placed within the outer portion, the lower flanges 21 providing a broad surface and forming a square corner for the inner side of the burial case and flanges 21 give a broad surface to set upon the damp cement. The parts are clamped to place and the bolts 23 are inserted to hold the two sides 12 and 18 a set distance apart and the cement is then tamped in between the outer and inner parts of the mold. The upper edge is then molded with the curved groove 32 on the outer side, as hereinbefore described, and
, this part of the case is then ready to be inserted in the oven for drying.
The lid or cover mold is set up as shown in Figs. 2, 6, and 7, the inner part 24 being placed within the outer parts 26 of the outer portion 26 and the cement is then tamped down bet-ween the two parts 24 and 26 through the large open top space 33 until the entire mold is filled and the top is leveled off with suitable tools. The lid is then ready to be placed in the oven for drying. After drying sufficiently to thoroughly set the cement the outer part 26 is removed by removing the clamps 17 after which the parts 26 may be separated from the cement. It
is then turned over and the inner part 24 is removed by taking out the removable brace or braces 34 which hold part 2 1 firmly against the cement. In the same manner the mold for the lower portion 11 of the case is removed by removing clamps 17 and taking out the parts 18 and 19 from within the lower portion of the case and then removing the outer parts 12 and 13 which leaves the said lower portion 11 in perfect form to receive the lid part 31. It is apparent that the sheet metal platen 10 and the molds for the lid and lower portions hold these parts firmly in line and so that they can not get out of line in drying and they must fit perfectly upon one another when the parts of the mold are removed, thereby forming a tight and convenient burial case or vault.
I claim as new:
1. A cover mold for burial cases comprising an inner sheet metal portion having flanged edges on its lower side, an outer sheet metal portion having inturned lower flanged edges to receive thereon the flanged edges of said inner portion, said outer por-.
tion formed in parts with an open top, the edges of the sheet metal at the joints between said parts turned outwardly in adjacent flanges, and suitable clamps for releasably holding said flanges.
2. A cover mold for burial cases comprising an inner sheet metal portion having inturned flanged edges on its lower side, an outer sheet metal portion having inturned lower flanged edges to receive thereon the inturned flanged edges of said inner portion, said inturned flanged edges of said outer portion formed in a bead around the outer edge to fit on to the lower portion of said case in a tight joint, said outer portion formed in parts with an open top, the sheet metal edges at the joints between said parts turned outwardly in contiguous flanges, and suitable clamps for releasably holding said flanges.
