Description

einem" gaat datent Gettin.
Letters Patent No. 101,071, dated March- 22, 1870.
IMPROVED COMPOUND TO lBIE? APPLIED "IO ROOFING.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
' enable others skilled iu the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying draw- 'ings forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a port-iouof a roof covered with my improved roong.
Figure 2 is a section .of the same, taken through the line x :c iig. 1. Similar letters of referenceiinlicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an iinproved compound to be used upon or in connection withmy elastic roofing patented September 29, 1868, and numbered 82,507 upon-roofs and walks to preserve it from being injured by the heat or frost, and keep it permanently elastic by preventing the evaporation of its gases; and
It consists of the compound formed of the ingredients in the proportions and lmanner as hereinafter more fully described.
A represents the sheeting of the roof B represents my patent elastic roofing, hercinbeibre referred to; and
O represents my improved compound.
.In preparing this compound I take one part of liusecd-oil and from eight to ten parts of water, and mix with them white sand or marble dust and plaster of Iaris, or calclnine plaster in the proportion of about one part of said dust or sand to two parts of said plaster, in sutiiciAent quantity to makea thin mortar. The compound is then spread over the elastic roofing B from one-eighth to one-quarter of an inch thick, and soon becomes hard like marble.
This covering prevents the heating and evaporation of the material forming the black roof, keeps the water that runs from the roof pure, is perfectly iireproof, and is not injured by the frost, thus preserving the elasticity of the roof and preventing it from becoming hard and cracking. l
The compound when used upon walks may be colored in blocks by a solution of paint and alcohol.
Having thus described .my invention,
l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentn 1. The improved roofing compound formed of the ingredients in about the proportions and in the manner substantially as herein described and for the pur pose setforth.
2. The combination of the above described rooting compound, with my elastic roofing compound described in Letters Patent No. 82,507, granted 'September 29, 1868, substantially as and for the purpose herein described and set forth.
The above speciiieation of my invention signed by me this 26th day of August, 1869.
. THOS. E. "001).
