To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WORTHWORKS WALL, resident of 79 Aireville road, F rizinghall, Bradford, in the county of York, England, tailor, subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Coat Hangers or Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide an inexpensive coat hanger or suspender that will allow the suspending hook to be readily turned from an upright position to one convenient for packing or storing.
In describing my inventionin detail, reference is made to the accompanying sheet of drawings, similar letters indicating similar parts, in which Figure 1 represents a plan showing one form of suspending hook holding device. Fig. 2, represents an elevation thereof. Fig. 3, represents an elevation of another form. Figs. 4 and 5 represent plan and elevation respectively of a further form, and Figs. 6 and 7 represent other modifications.
In carrying out my invention, I provide an aperture in the sides or through the body A of the hanger, through which a wire W having a head W at one end is passed, the wire is pushed up to the said head and then bent to, at, or about a right angle and a hook formed at the other end for the purpose of hanging up the device.
In one form (Figs. 1 and 2) a catch C is provided which projects slightly to one side of the hanger. Such catch has a right angled portion C provided with spikes or like C which may be driven into the body A of the hanger as shown. The upstanding portion of the wire W will when same is vertical be held by the catch C, and such portion may be turned to an angle and as,- sume the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2. In place of the catch C being driven into the body A of the hanger, it may be attached to the side thereof (Fig. 8) and the head W may act as a partial securing means, other securing means such as stud, or rivet S being employed.
Figs. 4 and 5 show another form whereby the wire or like W is held in position by two members C C mounted on the top, of the hanger and hinged or pivoted thereto, the wire being held by the two overlapping hook ends of the members C C which together form a catch. To release the wire W same will be pressed back slightly toward the han er, and when not in use the members C Wlll lie flat or comparatively so on the upper face or top of the hanger.
In a further form Fig. 6, a catch member C is attached to the side of the hanger A, said catch being either in the nature of a somewhat rigid spring or entirely rigid and having an upturned guide end 0 and hook portion C which will engage the wire W when same is in the vertical position. When rigid the springy nature of the wire will allow of engagement.
Fig. 7 shows another form of catch similar in configuration to that shown in Fig. 1, the catch being made from a piece of metal O bent to surround the member A of the hanger, the hook W being pivoted as shown to the lower portion of the clip, and not passed through the hanger. The catch 0 is suitably attached to the hanger such as by pins or the like S.
Referring to Fig. 2 it will be seen provision has been made for a double catch, one at the top and one at the bottom this arrangement will allow the hanger to be hung up either in the ordinary way or reversed.
What I claim as my invention is In combination with a coat hanger provided with a suspending hook hinged in connection therewith a pair of catches for engaging the suspending means, one of said catches being mounted at the top of the hanger and the other of said catches being mounted at the bottom of the hanger where.
