At the same time, the resistance of the roller to the stroke of the type is amply suliicient to'produce a clear of'sheets of paper, with'carbon sheets interand sharp mpression upon the paper placed-upon the roller, even where a number posed, are employed, for the purpose of producing carbon copies.
I am aware that it is already known in the-art to construct atypewriter roller or 1. A roller orplaten for typewriting ma" chines, comprising an outer impact layer or surface, an inner layer of vibration-absorb ing and sound-mufliing material, and an intermediate layer of material adapted to sup port and strengthen said outer layer, the said intermediate layer being provided with perforations having inwardly projecting edges forming burs adapted to engage with the material of the said inner layer.
2. A roller-or platen for typewriting machines, comprisin an outer impact layer or surface, an inner ayer of vibration-absorbing and sound-muftling material, anintermediate layer of material adapted to support and strengthen said outer layer, provided with perforations having inwardly projecting edges having burs adapted toengage with the material ofthe said. inner layer,
and means for securing the said inner layer in position firmly against the inner'surface of the intermediate layer and in engagement with the said burs thereof.
3. A roller or platen for typewriting machines, comprising an outer impact layer or surface, an inner layer of vibration-absorbng and sound-muilhng materlal, an 1ntermediate layerof material adapted to strengthen said outer layer provided with perforations having inwardly projecting edges forming burs adapted to engage with the material of said inner layer, and elastic means adapted to press said inner layer of an inner layer of vibration-absorbing and sound-mutlling material, and an intermediate layer provided with perforations Having inwardly projecting edges or burs engaging with sald 1nner layer.
5. In a typewriter roller or platen, the combination with an outer impact layer, of
an innerlayer of vibration-absorbing and sou'nd-mufihng material, and an intermediate layer provided with perforations or slits having inwardly projecting edges or burs engaging with said inner layer.
6. In a typewriter roller 0r platen, the combination with an enter impact layer. of an inner layer of vibmtion-absorbing and sound-mufiling material, an intermediate layer provided with perforations having inwardly project-ingedges or burs engaging with the said inner layer, and means for holding said inner layer in close proximlty to said intermediate layer and in cngagement witlrsaid burs, said means consisting of a circular spring inside of the inner layer.
