FLAT-IRON STAND.
- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 25, 1908.
Patented Dec. 5, 1911. Serial No. 450,166.
To all whom it may concern: Be it lmown that I, LEON FRANK PARK- nURs'r, a citizen of the United States, resid-' character whereby a flat-iron or similar tool may be supported in a simple and efficient manner.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a fiat-iron stand which is so arranged that the iron may be supported in the ordinary way with the face downward and which may also be inverted so that the face of the iron may be utilized as a stove.
Another object of my invention is to provide a stand in which a minimum amount of heat is conducted to the table and in which there are only a few points of contact to the ironand table.
- Further objects of my invention will appear in the course of the following specification in which I have shown my invention embodied in concrete form for purposes of illustration.
In the drawing, Figure 1 shows the stand supporting my flat-iron in the usual way; Fig. 2 shows the stand supporting the inverted iron; Fig. 3 1s a plan view of my device; and Fig. 4-is an end elevation of the Referring to the drawing, 10 and 11 represent two plates which -are spaced apart and arranged to support the face of'the iron.
These plates are flanged outward from each other, preferably at the four edges. These flanged edges are provided with projecting points 12 and 13, the latter points making contact with the table. The center of each plate is cut away. at 14L and points 15 are arrangedaround the opening for supporting the fiacc of the iron. Lightening holes 16 are provided as desired. These plates may be made and secured together in any desired way. I have found that they can be made very rigid at a low cost by casting them with the spacing blocks 17 in one piece. The plates are preferably rectangular in shape and the spacing blocks are arranged at three of the corners. By omitting one of the spacing blocks the flat-iron handle 18 may be inserted between the plates as shown in Fig. 2 and the back of the iron supported by the edges of the plates. These edges are made wide enough so as'to form I a supporting base for the plates when they stand on'edge. Either side of the stand may be used to support the face of the iron, but when the iron is to be inverted, the corner of the stand without the spacing block must be upward. The iron which is used in connection with this stand mav be of any desired form.
When the iron is notin use, it may be placed on the stand in the usual way as shown in Fig. 1 but when it is desired to use the fiat-iron as a stove, the stand may be placed on edge and the handle of the iron inserted between the plates so that the back of the iron is supported by the flanges on the plates as shown in Fig. 2.
While I have described. my invention as constructed and arranged in a definite manner in accordance with the patent statutes, it should be understood th atl do not limit my invention thereto except in so far as it is limited by the scope of the claims annexed hereto. I
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is,
l. A flat iron stand comprising two rectangular supporting plates for the face of the iron and spacing blocks at three corners thereof for rigidly securing the plates in parallel relation to admit the handle of the iron between thefplates.
2. A flat ironstand comprising two rectangularsupporting plates for the face of the iron provided with spacing blocks at three corners for securing the plates in parallel relation to admit a flat iron' handle between them, said plates being flanged away from each other so that the stand rests, on the flanges in any position.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this twenty first" day of August,
LEON FRANK PARKHURST. Witnesses: Rosn L. CROWLEY, MARY K. MURPHY.
