Description
G. HINES.
' LIFE PRBSERVER. APPLICATION FILED MAY 5, 1911.
1,010,426. v Patented Dec. 5, 1911.
GEORGE HINES, 0F POTTSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ULYSSES GRANT MENGEI, OF FRACKVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
LIFE-PRESERVER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 5, 1911.
Application filed May 5, 1911. Serial No. 625,282.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE HiNEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pottsville, in the county of Schuylkill and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Life-Preservers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of With the above and other objects in view,
this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more particularly described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my life preserver; and Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, with the parts separated.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, the numeral 1 designates generally my improved life preserver, comprising a front 2, consisting of a pair of counterpart sections hin ed at their adjacent edges as at 3, and provided with upper and lower outwardly beveled ends 4 and 5. Sections 6 are hinged, as at 7, to the counterpart sections of the front 2, and are aliningly beveled at their lower ends with the beveled ends 5 of the said sections, and terminate at their opposite ends, as indicated by 9, at points slightly less in length than the sides of the front 2. Floats 10 are secured to the outer edges of the sections 6 by flexible members 11. These floats are substantially the same length as the front section, and are connected at their upper ends by straps 12 to arm rings 13, which arm rings are connected to the flexible members 11, sections 6 and sides of the front 2 respectively, by straps 14, 15 and 16. A back strap 17 connects the arm rings 13, while a suitable collar 18, of any buoyant material, is connected to the upper edges 4 of the sections comprising the front 2 by the means of straps 19 and 20.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing,
it will be manifest that a life preserver is provided for which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such a device.
Having thus fully described this invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a life preserver, the combination of a front section, floats flexibly connected thereto, a collar connected to the said front section, arm rings flexibly connected to floats and said front sections, and a back strap connecting the said arm rings.
2. A life preserver comprising a front member, consisting of a pair of hinged sections, sections hinged thereto of a length less than the front member, floats flexibly connected to these shorter sections, arm rings flexibly connected to the floats and the front section, and a back strap connecting the arm rings, as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE HINES.
