UNTTED STATESv PATENT @FFTQE.
FRITZ WILHELM LJUNG, or vAsrERAs, SWEDEN.
ATTACHMENT FOR WAFFLE-IRONS, FBYING-PANS, AND SUCH LIKE ARTICLES.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRITZ VVILi-IELM LJUNG, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at Vasteras,Sweden, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for iVafiie-Irons, Frying-Pans, and Such Like Articles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in attachments for wattle-irons, frying pans,
. and such like articles and comprises a combination of levers, linkage, and pivot points whereby the fire side of the iron may be reversed, or the pan opened, by means of levers or handles remote from the fire or pan.
Another object of my invention is to provide a simple construction of parts which allows the two parts of the waffle-iron to be a product of the same mold.
I attain these objects by the arrangement and construction of parts shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side-elevation of a two-part waflle-iron embodying my invention, the parts being positioned for baking, or cooking over a fire. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing one part of the iron in a raised position. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the device as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view in perspective showing in de tail pivoting trunnions of the irons.
As shown in the drawing 5 indicates companion members of a two-part wattle-iron, each part being provided, near the center of its sides with portions 5 of laterally projecting trunnions 5 These trunnion portions are further provided at their ends with pivot points 7, a quadrant in cross section, oppositely disposed with relation to the diameter of the trunnion, as shown in Fig. 4.
Each half of the iron is provided with a bearing 9 which, coacting with a pin 10 on each iron, provides pivoting means whereby the irons may be opened, and serving as means for holding the parts in operative relation to each other when closed.
The lifting and reversing mechanism consists of two levers 1 and 2 which are pivoted together at 3 and provided with arms or handles 3 and 4: respectively. The lever 1 is provided, at its end opposite the pivot point, with bearings 5 in which the trunnions 5 are adapted to rotate. The lever 2 is provided with a slotted bearing 7 so disposed and pivoted that when raised it engages the projections 7 on that part of the Specification of Letters Patent.

prevented from turning during this operation by means of a spring 6 attached to the handle 3 in such a manner that it rests against one of the hinging members of the 1ron.
hen it is desired to reverse the entire iron both levers 3 and 4; are drawn to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1. By this movement the waflie-iron, swinging on trunnions 5 in the bearings 5 of the lever 1, assumes a position shown by the dotted line. The iron is thrown over this dead center by means of a knife or similar instrument whereupon the iron is again lowered to the position shown in full line of Fig. 1- gith the reverse side of the iron neXt to the By this construction and arrangement of parts it will be seen that the two parts of the waffle-iron may be cast from the same mold, since all the parts are disposed in such a manner that they will be in operative relation to each other when the device is in use, and that the means for either opening or reversing the iron is remote from the fire and waflle-iron, consequently permitting operation of the device without danger of the operator being burned.
I claim l. The combination with a two-part wattle-iron with each part provided with laterally extending pivot points, the points of one part being disposed to one side of the points of the other part, of a support, means pivoting said iron upon said support, levers for engaging the pivot points of one part of said iron to lift such part independently of the companion part, and means operating said lever.
2. The combination with a two-part wai lie iron with each part provided with trunnion portions having pivot points, the pivot points of one part being disposed at one side of the pivot points of the other part, of an attachment therefor comprising means for engaging the trunnion portions of both parts of the iron to lift the same, and means engaging the pivot points of one part of said iron to lift such part independently of the companion part of the iron, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
3. The combination of a two-part waflle iron With each part provided With trunnion portions having pivot points, the pivot points of one part being in spaced relation With respect to the pivot points of the other part, of an attachment therefor comprising pivoted means for engaging the trunnion portions of both parts of the iron to lift the same, and means pivoted at one side of the first named means for engaging the pivot points of one part of said iron to lift such part independently of the companion part of said iron, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my 15 name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
FRITZ WILHELM LJUNG.
