To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT E. hfloLEoD, a subject of the King of England, residing at the city of Providence, in the county of Providence and cltate of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Tmprovements in Feeding Devices for Liquids, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a device for dis pensing a disinfecting fluid; and the objects in view are to provide means to permit regulating the flow of the fluid from a receptacle, and a means to secure against malicious treatment of the liquid contents, after the receptacle has been charged with the latter.
My invention consists of a verticallyarranged transparent cylinder for holding the disinfecting fluid, adjustable means to cause the said fluid to discharge drop by drop at regular intervals, and a sealing means for the device, of the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings, Figure 1 represents a plan of my improved device, showing the manner of sealing the same after being charged with the disinfecting fluid. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation taken on line eta-00. of Fig. 1, showing the normal position of parts, as when the device is in operation, and, Fig. 3 is a detail view showing a modification in the construction of valve for the device.

My improved device is essentially designed for use in purifying the atmosphere of toilet rooms and is adapted to be mounted on that part of the wall above the urinal basin.

The upper end of the cylinder A is closed by a thin metal cover f having an integral annular screw-threaded flange j, to engage a thread formed in the glass of said cylinder, and this cover has a central inwardly projecting integral hub f provided with. a screw-threaded opening therethrough, and which opening acts as an inlet to permit pouring of the disinfecting liquid within the said cylinder or receptacle A.
The discharge of the liquid 0 is regulated by means of a conical valve 9 whose coneshaped surface. is made to fit the ground sex-it (L3 of the cylinder-neck a Said valve g having a central integral rod whose upper end portion. is screw-threeded, as at g to engage through a nut 71, which is secured to and held in position by a V-shaped hanger 2' whose free end portions project beyond each side of the hub i and are secured in any suitable manner to the inner surface of the cover f, as at points 6 2' The upper end of the valve-rod gis provided with a slot g for a screw-driver engagement with in turning said rod to regulate a proper discharge of the liquid 0 drop by drop from the perforation a to a urinal basin.
To guard against breakage of the cylinderneck (4 in adjusting the valve 9 to its seat a, the said valve may be inclosed by a thin rubber cap j, in the manner shown in Fig.
The flange a of the cylinder-neck o is to permit the end of a rubber or lead pipe is, indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2, to be brought over said flange, in order that the flow of liquid may be carried through said pipe to discharge at the proper point desired, as in a case where the device cannot be positioned to discharge from its outlet point o direct into the urinal basin.
In order to prevent any malicious person from tampering with the ope 'ating valve after the same has been adjusted for discharge of the liquid, I provide a sealing means comprising a pin Z which passes loosely through openings formed in the threaded portions of the cylinder A and its cover f, as at points Z Z in Fig. 2, and at one side of the hub f and said pin having a perforation at one end thereof, as at Z to receive a fine wire mwhich is carried through a perforation formed in the side of a vertical flange n integral of a screwthreaded cap m which engages the thread of said hub and closes the inlet formed by the latter, and the ends of said wire brought taut and twisted together, and this twisted portion covered and compressed by lead, as at 0, by any suitable instrument, in the manner shown in Fig. 1.
The flange n, of the closure member n allows the latter to be firmly secured in place upon the cover f, and by having the taut wire 712- connected at the side of said flange, nearest to its point of connection Z with the pin Z, prevents unscrewing of the said closure member, until the sealing means, as described, is broken.
By my construction and arrangement of parts I provide a neat, simple, and effective device for the purpose intended, and at the same time inexpensive to manufacture.
hat I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a vertically-arranged glass cylinder adapted to contain a disinfecting fluid and having an open screwthreaded top and a central downwardly projecting neck provided with a conical seat communicating with an outlet; a cover having an annular screw-threaded flange to engage the threaded top of said cylinder and a central hub provided with a screw-threaded opening to form an inlet; a conical valve to fit the cylinder-seat and having an operating rod provided respectively with a screwthreaded portion and an engaging slot at its upper end; a hanger secured to the cover and having an integral nut to engage the threaded portion of the valve-rod; a screwthreaded cap to engage the threaded inlet of said cover and having an outwardly extending flange, and a fastening means for the cover to prevent malicious treatment of working parts during operation of the device.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination of a vertically-arranged cylinder adapted to contain a disinfecting fluid and having a closed end which is provided with a conical valve-seat communicating with a fine perforated outlet; a cover for said cylinder and provided with an inlet; a closure for the inlet and having an integral outwardly-extending flange; an operating rod supported by the cover and having a conical point; a cap of flexible material to inclose the point of said rod and bear against the said seat; a pin passing through said cylinder and said cover, and a fastening means for the cover to prevent malicious treatment of working parts during operation of the device.
