By reference more particularly to Fig. 2 of the drawings it )vill be seen that the side frames have the openings so disposed therein that these frames are reve ihle and, hence, if any excessive Wear occurs, for example, at the upper portion of the central opening 0 the side frame can be readily rcmoved and reversed so that the part `ahich before was the top of the side frame will become the bottoni; and this reversibility of the side frames is further advantageous becauseit avoids all danger of any mistake in the proper attachment of the side frames in position, as the side frames can be used upon either side of the truck.
The main portion of the transom l5 is chambered or open to a sutlicient extent to admit the bolster D and to receive the springs E and the spring seats or blocks lf Whereon these sprinois are mounted. The springblocks l1" are shown as supported by the stirrups or straps-G which are U-shaped and set between the side Walls L of the transom B and hat;x their upper ends turned outwardly and secured to the top of the side walls or bars b, as `shovvn in Fig. l. The bolster D may be of any suitable or approved construction and will be lfurnished upon its upper surface with suitable side and center bearing blocks, as Well understood by those familiar with this class of devices.

The journal boxes ll are fitted interiorly with suitable bearings for the journals m of the axles M, but the details of these journal boxes need not be more fully described, as such boxes will be included in a separatey application for Letters Patent. ln the preferred einbodiment of my invention each of the jour nal boxes H is of a general spherical shape and each journal box is retained Within its appropriate opening at the end of the side frame by means ofthe retaining rings or keepers l. Theilteepers K are preferably formed of two rings, each of which has its exterior surface screw threaded to engage the correspondingly threaded opening at the end of the side frameand each of these rings is preferably formed with a flange or shoulder k at its outer end. The interior surfacesof the two rings K which engage the same journal box H, are reversely curved, so that when the rings are in posiV tion for use, as shown in the drawings, they will accurately tit the spherical surface tageous. of tl e journal box will `insure that at all Locate? the journal box and securely hold itin engagement Vwith the side frame, while at the saine time permitting a swivel or universal movement of the journal box with respect to the side frame. From the foregoing description it will be seen that when the side `frames have been placed upon the cylindrical ends of the bolster B the locking bolts C 'will securely retain the side fra-nies in position, with the inner faces of the side frames abutting against the shoulder o4' of the end portion D of the bolster, When it is desired to malte repairs, as for exai ple, to replace a. Worn or defective wheel, it i.- simply necessary to jacl: up the transom l), Withdraw the locking` bolts C, C from the pockets a3 and slip oli' the side frames. without removing the journal boxes therefrom. lllhen the Wheels are replaced the side frames can then be slippedtoack on to the end portions of the bolster and secured in place as before.
