To all whom t 'may concern Be it knownthat I,-`J0HAN ject of the King of Hungary, residing at Michel, in the Province of British Columbia and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stockings, of which the following is a speciiication, reference being hadI therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invent-ion relates to stockings, and the objects` of the invention are, first, to furnish the upper end of the stockingwith elastic inserts adapted to frictionally engage the limb' and support the stocking thereon; second, to furnish a stocking with a detachable resilient knee-ca and third, to

provide a stocking of the a ve type that canbe comfortably worn and manufactured at a comparatively small expense.

I attain the above objects by a stocking that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1n which Figure -1 is a side elevation of the stocking. Fig. 2 is an enlarged horizontal sectional view taken on the line X--X of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional view of the upper part of the stocking.

My invention is 1n connection with the upper and o en end of a stocking made of cotton, lislet read2 silk or other material.

The material l 1s provided with two sets of looped elastic inserts 2 and 3,`the former being arranged at the sides of the stocking and.A smaller than the latter inserts, which have the upper ends thereof terminating at the front and rear sides of thestocking. These inserts can be made of any elastic material, as strips of rubber or rubber thread interwoven with the material 1. ing with the loop-sha ed elastic inserts is an elastic band 4 carri by the upper edges of the stocking.

The inserts 2 and 3 are so disposed as to allow of free movement of the knee joint without necessarily ret-arding vthe movement of the limb, or binding the. limbso firmly as to retard circulation.

The front side of the stocking, at the knee port-ion thereof, is provided with a plurality -of clasps, the members 5 being designed to hold members 6 carried by a pad or cap 7 that can be made of leather, resilient metal or any durable and yieldable material; The sides of the stocking adjacent to the upper edges thereof can be provided with clasp members 8 to receiveother clasp members (not shown) carried by under-garments.

The elasticity of the inserts 2 and 3 is sufficient to frictionally hold the upper end ofthe stocking in engagement with the limb,

What I claim is I j The combination with a stocking, of .loopshaped elastic inserts carried by the upper end of said stocking and having the ends terminating at the upper ed of said stocking, and an elastic band carrled by the upper ed e of said stocking.
