FLASH-LAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application, filed April 25, 1913. Serial No. 763,660.
To all whom it may. concern:
Be it known that I, Orro R. TUCKE a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and .useful Improvements in Flash- Lamps, of which the following is a specification.

p ,This invention relates to improvements in a signal device, and has for its object a mechanism arranged the arm of a person, and ameans for closing an electric circuit for illuminating a flash lamp by a straighter outstretched motion of the arm.
A further object ofmy invention is to provide a flash lamp in proper connection with a battery, the same being arranged to be detachably applied on the Wrist or fore-part and a means whereby contact is made and the light flashed by an outstretched position of the arm.

The invention in detail consists of a bat tery housing 8-provided with a hinged bottom 9,. and in the battery housing is a partition 10 in which is located a central contact 11, with which communicates the flashlamp 12. In this battery housing is located a battery 13 provided with a horizontal contact 14-, and a vertical contact 15, this battery being of the ordinary construction, and the horizontal contact 1 larranged of spring material so that its end will remain in con stant contact with a disk or plate 16 connected to a post 1'7, which in turn is in rigid connection with the center contact 11.; these parts being insulated from the-horizontal-partition 10 by insulating material 18 (see Figs. 4 and 6). Above the horizontal partition 10 is located a flash lamp 12, which is seated in a socket 19, and as before stated, the base oi: the lamp is in constant connectirm with the contact 11-, the socket 19 being suitably depressed so as to permit the outer surface of the bulb of the flash to be detachably secured to.

The opposite end of the cord isprovided with a clamp or fastening device 29,- by which said cord is'conveniently attached to the garment of the operator, and the end 26 only brought in communication with the contact strip 15 by the straightening oroutstretching of the arm as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2.

Another feature of the device is that the light is automatically flashed by the'strhightcniiig of the arm, and gives the chauficur ample light on the "mechanical parts of the machine when-"it is necessary for him to work on the engine to repair any of the parts. and the light will. remaidinbonstant illumination as long as the arm is in approximately a straight position.
Having fullydescribed my invention, what I claim is: v
l. A signal device comprising an elongated battery housing, a battery located therein, a flash-lamp located in said housing,-
a contact point located in the battery housing connecting said battery with the flashlamp. a spring contact located in the battery housing for completing a circuit and a flexible connection whereby thespring contact is operated for closing a circuit, and aclamping means located on the housing for supporting the device, substantially as specined; 2. A signal device comprising a battery housing, a partition located therein, a battery located in the lower art of said hous ing, a flash-lamp supported in the upper part of said housing, a contact located on the partition and contacting with the flash-lamp and one pole ofthe battery, a spring con-- tact located in the upper portion of the housing and arranged to be brought in contact with the second pole of the battery, and a clamping means located on the housing by which the device is supported preferably on the fore-arm of a person, substantially as specified.
3. A signal device comprising a battery l'iousing, a partition located therein, a. battery located in the lower portion of the housing, a flash lamp located in the upper portion Off the housing and above the partition, a hinged bottom located on the under side of the housing upper end of e housing, a contact located on'the partition communicating with the --pole of the battery, a spring contact located a hinged top located on the jVitnesses:
flash lamp and one pole of the battery, :1 spring contact mounted in the upper portion of the housing and arranged to be brought in contact with the o positc pole of the bat tery, a clamp connec ed to the battery housing by which the device is so ported and a cord connected to the spring or completing a circuit in order to illuminate the lamp, substantially as specified.

A signal device of the class described comprising a battery housing, a battery located in the lower portion thereof, a flash lamp located in the upper portion thereof, a contact connecting the flash lamp with one in the upper portion of the housing and arranged to contact with the opposite pole of the battery, a hinged door located on the bottom of the housing, a hinged door located on the top of the housing, a clamping means whereby the housing is supported and a cord by which the spring contact is operated for completing a circuit for ilhuninating the lamp, substantially as specified.
5. A signal device comprising an elongated approximately rectangular casting; a partition located therein forming two co1npartments, a battery located in the lower compartment, a flash lamp supported in thegupper compartment, spring arms radiating, from the upper compartment; a contact Eupported on the partition with which one pole of the battery and flash "lamp contacts, a spring contact lo ated in the uppercompartment and arranged to communicate with the opposite pole of the battery, and a cord connected to the spring contact and passing through the upper com 'iartment and dcsigned to be attached to t e arm of the user, by which contact is completed by .,the out stretching of the arm, and the flash lamp illuminated, substantially as specified.
